How do I want to be remembered? This question has been running through my mind the past couple of days. How do I want to be remembered, not only when I die but also at the end of every day? I don’t ask this question out of pride. I’m not looking to be validated by people. But I know that my life has the potential to bring glory to God.
The lives of so many kings are recorded in the old testament and all of them begin with whether or not they did what was right or evil in the sight of the Lord.
Why is this always one of the first things that’s recorded? Because it dictates how they lived and ruled over their kingdom and how the people followed them down the same path, whether it was right or evil.
Those who did what was evil are remembered for their failures and their downfall. Those who did what was right are remembered for their faithfulness to God and how God provided for the entire nation in return.
Those who did what was right are further remembered by whether or not they did what was right with their whole heart. Doing what’s right in the eyes of of God is more than just obeying his laws. God examines our hearts and looks deeper than any human can.
“You know his heart. In fact, you are the only one who knows every human heart.”
2 Chronicles 6:30
God doesn’t want us to coast through life and simply obey His commands. God has so much more for us and He wants us to chase after Him. By obeying Him we have the opportunity to grow in intimacy with Him and have a relationship with Him. We can then show His love and light to the world around us.
“You show us your love. You do that when we follow you with all our hearts.”
2 Chronicles 6:14
I want to live for God with my whole heart. I don’t want to go through life doing things half heartedly. I want people to remember me as faithful and doing what is right in the eyes of the Lord, because I want my life to be a testament to God’s goodness and faithfulness and grace and patience.
“They turned to God with all their heart. When they did, they found him. So the Lord gave them peace and rest on every side.”
2 Chronicles 15:15
