I’ve now been in Antigua, Guatemala for one week. We’ve been blessed with so much including community, accommodations, and ministry. My team and I have been helping teach English in the schools. We’ve been with kids from the age of 12 all the way to the age of 23. But I’ve also had more down time than I anticipated and it’s been tough sometimes to steward my time well. At home I might have turned to movies or social media but here I’ve been able to spend lots of one on one time with God. I’ve loved being able to dive into His word and I’ve already experienced so much in just this one week. I’ve begun every morning with asking God to give me a word or a piece of scripture to write on my hand so that I have a constant reminder of Him throughout the day. It’s been amazing to look back on my day in the evening and see how He used that word or scripture throughout my day.
My favourite moment from this week came when we had unscheduled ministry. A few of us walked into the local neighbourhood to play soccer with the kids and I met a 3 year old boy, Jose. He didn’t know any English and my Spanish is very limited but we kicked a soccer ball back and forth for at least half an hour and it was so rewarding to see him smile and run around. We carry the Holy Spirit with us wherever we go and I love that I can share the love of Jesus without having to say a word.
God has filled me with passion and He’ll never stop filling me up and strengthening me! I believe God is going to empower me and my team and He will create change in us and through us here in Guatemala.
A few prayer requests for myself and my team…
– We would steward our time well
– We won’t be afraid to pray big prayers
– Health and safety
“Lord, you are honest and fair. You guide those who do what is right. You lead them on a straight path. You make their way smooth. Lord, we are living the way your laws command us to live. We are waiting for you to act. Our hearts long for you to be true to your name. That’s what you are known for.” Isaiah 26:7-8
