Jesus Calms the Storm
One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side of the lake.” So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, He fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger.
The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!”
He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. “Where is your faith?” He asked his disciples.
With The World Race fundraising, you have to hit funding deadlines. This is to incentivize any people typically struggle with procrastination. If you don’t hit a deadline, you’re not allowed to go on The Race. The first deadline was $5,000. You had to have $5,000 to go to The World Race preparation camp. I, clearly, hit that deadline, thanks to Jesus. The second deadline is $10,000. It is exactly 23 days from the time that I’m writing this. The last deadline is $15,000 and it is while you’re on The Race.
When I committed to going on The World Race, I was nothing but joyous and excited. I was then hit with the reality that I was going to have raise $14,806. I tried to remain positive, but Satan was nipping at my heels and whispering doubt in my ear.
When Jesus called me to The World Race, it was like He was saying,
“Let us go over to the other side of the lake.”
As I began to set sail across the lake of fundraising with Jesus, it felt as if He went to sleep. It felt like an enormous squall was hitting me. I felt like my boat was being swamped. I felt as if I was in great danger. I began to panic due to what I was feeling. Similarly to the disciples, I rushed to Jesus begging Him to save me. He got up, raised $5,600 in two weeks, and simply asked me, “Where is your faith, Kole?”
I got back from training camp a week ago. I’m finding myself in the same boat (pun intended) as before. I have 23 days to raise another $3,500. I am finding myself in a panic. I am finding myself running to Jesus begging Him to wake up to look at the storm that is tossing our boat around.
When I was asking the Lord to give me something to write a blog on, He simply told me to go to the Word. I opened up my bible, read this passage, and instantly knew what I was going to write. As I was writing it, I was prompted to read past this passage to see what happens after they cross the lake.
After they cross the lake and get to Gerasenes, the disciples worlds are rocked.
When they reach Gerasenes, Jesus starts performing miracles left and right. He restores a demon-possessed man. He raises a dead girl. He heals a sick woman. After Jesus shows the disciples all that is possible through Him, He sends them out. He tells them, “Take nothing for the journey.” I love that. I love that because it is an exact representation of what I’m going through.
I’m crossing the lake of fundraising. I’m reaching my destination and its only the beginning of my journey. I’m leaving my life behind and taking nothing with me. I’m being sent out to do greater things than He.
Luke 9:6
So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news and healing people everywhere.
