I’m going to introduce you to the girls that I’ve been travelling with for the last 3 months!
We are the “seniors” of the squad, plus Molly. And it seems, the most multi-cultural. This has made for the most perfect and sweet concoction of humans I could ever choose to spend my time with.
Name: Jacqueline Hall, Captain Jack! Mumma Jack.
From: Philadelphia, USA
Loves: Cats, particularly her cat “Macho-man Randy Savage” (LOLOLOLOL)
Hates: Bugs and finding my blonde hair around the place.
Quotes: “Listen Linda” “MAAAAM” “My, how the turn tables”
This girl. She has become my lil bestie. I realised that I have woken up next to her every single morning for the last 3 months. Yes, hours after her… but whenever I open my eyes she is there with a brand new smile for the day. I always find myself gravitating towards her because of her warm, chill vibes. We can just sit for hours and not need to say anything. She also hates small chat with strangers. YAY. We are similar in so many ways and whenever I have something that is bothering me that I’m usually too scared to voice, she always listens and understands no matter how crazy I feel. She can always make me laugh no matter what mood I’m in and her shoulder is always there for my head when I’m over it. Also, she doesn’t really understand awkward situations or comprehends when one is happening because that’s how chill she is. Straight chillaaaaa. I love her.
My favourite memory is us sitting on the bed in Nicaragua when we had the room to ourselves, playing cards for hours and blasting my RnB/hip-hop playlist from the 90’s. She knows more words than me and I respect that.
Name: Amy Bird. Birdyyyy. Amy Bird-town (just adding that one now, I like it)
From: Somewhere near Manchester, UK
Loves: Quiet time and making fun of me
Hates: Community surprises left in the toilet
Quotes: “If I find one more **** in the toilet” “Don’t tell Jackie I’m eating this cheese/milk/gluten”
Oh, Amy. We became friends from the very beginning. I was there for her during her hard times and then the tables turned and she was there listening to me as I walked through all of mine. I have so much respect for her and what she has to say. She’s never one to shy away from telling you what she really thinks! She is a prophet – let’s just say it, and being able to hear and witness first hand what the Lord is telling her is such an incredible experience. I can always count on her to do something a little bit luxurious with me (must be the “exoticness” in us) and I just love spending time with her laughing at ourselves and how different we can be.
My favourite memory is from Monteverde, Costa Rica when we left for a little adventure on our own. We got some wine, cheese and crackers and laid on the bed stalking Instagram together and laughing about crazy stories from our past.
Name: Molly Farmer, Moll. Molly-Moll. Molls.
From: Saint Louis- Missouri, USA
Loves: Politics, sassiness
Hates: People moving her stuff, injustice.
Quotes: “Y’all” “I’m gonna punch them in the eye”
Molly is one special human. She has so much passion for justice in the world and she inspires others to care too. She is so honest with wherever she is at in her walk with Jesus, even if that is challenging. Although I didn’t really know her for most of the race I have seen her change in so many ways as she has never tried to hide any part of herself from anyone. Always the one to encourage everyone to be themselves, no matter who that bothers she is such an uplifting soul to be around. Tough, confident and loud but always making sure everyone is heard. Oh and she speaks Spanish too!
My favourite memory is from before we got put on a team together at a pizza restaurant in Nepal. She told me all about “tubing” down a river which is what she usually does every year. I knew she was so much fun and unjudgemental- my kinda girl!
Name: Christa Diaz, Chriss, Christaaaaaa.
From: New Jersey, USA
Loves: Pineapple, Salsa
Hates: Thinking in 2 languages, dirty shower drains.
Quotes: “That’s so dope” “Cawfeeee” aka Coffee
Whatta babe. She is our resident Puerto Rican Spanish beauty and loves to share her culture with us. She took this photo for me when I had to stay behind sick because she knows how much I love her crinkled nose when she laughs. If you can call her your friend, you are blessed. Because she is so confident in herself she can be vulnerable and open up no matter what is happening. She is so strong and has shown me how to fight if I’m going through something. If she sees someone battling with something she will go to them and make sure they have the space to talk about it. Always making sure everyone is respected, she makes us all feel special. And guess whatttt. She also loves 90’s RnB/hip-hop!!!
My favourite memory is when she caught me rapping to biggie smalls while cooking dinner one night in Costa Rica. We realised right then how much we love each other.
Name: Megan Cohill, Megs.
From: Baltimore- Maryland, USA
Loves: Finding cute cafe’s and blogging, long deep conversations.
Hates: Being told she can’t do something for someone else
Quotes: “And that’s where I’m at” “YES”
My heart is so tender when I think of Megan. The most humble, quiet, intelligent girl. I have never met anyone with such a “servant” heart in my life. She will actually do anything you ask of her – so be careful what you ask. Really, you don’t even need to ask. In Costa Rica, she got up early every morning and went to put the coffee on downstairs for everyone else so it would be ready by the time we all woke up… she didn’t even drink the coffee!!! WAHT. Megan always sees the good in EVERYONE and you will never hear her complain about any situation. I would like to just say now that she is perfect but we know that’s not possible? She has always asked me to go on cute little dates with her where she will sit and ask me questions about my life and be so interested in what I have to say. She has spoken so much love over me and I am so thankful to be her friend. Thanks, Megs.
My favourite memory is from before we were on a team together in Swaziland, living in the bush of Africa. She accidentally drank one of my soda’s in the fridge but instead of replacing it, she asked me to go on a date with her so she could buy me a new one. We ended up walking slowly back to the compound picking African wildflowers along the way, she knew where all the good ones were.
And that’s “Team Azcucar”… my sugar babes.
