Early in the AM of March 7, my squad pulled into Reap Granada, the ministry we’d be working with while in Nicaragua. We were SUPER blessed! As we walked into our rooms, we were in awe! The room had incredibly nice bunk beds and bathrooms. It was amazing!
Reap is an awesome place. It’s a farm, it’s a place that hosts bible studies and church for locals, and a place that sends people to connect with those living nearby.
Our days typically looked a little something like this:
5am//Prayer (2 days a week)
6am//Quiet Time
7:30am//Breakfast — we were fed really well there. Yummy pineapple, eggs, occasional pancakes…
9am//Ministry! — we’d switch between farm work and prayer walking every morning, and then do whatever we didn’t do in the afternoon. Farming could be pickaxing the roots of weeds, harvesting moringa, or chopping down plantain trees with machetes! (That was pretty fun!) During prayer walking, we go to people’s houses and pray for them. It was really cool!
10:30-11am//Stop ministry
12pm//Lunch
1:30pm//Do whatever ministry we didn’t do in the morning
3:30-4pm//Stop ministry
6pm//Dinner
7:30pm//Some nights we’d have worship, book study, or discussion.
Then we would go to sleep!
On Mondays, we’d have Adventure Day. Some things that I did:
- I hiked a volcano called Mombacho! It was super hard, but beautiful!
- We drove to Managua, the capital, to watch Captain Marvel.
- We went to the beach!
Tuesdays were our Sabbath. We stayed on the compound all day and did anything from reading our bibles, to journaling, sleeping, watching movies, doing laundry, etc.
Nicaragua was a beautiful place with sweet people who set an amazing example of simple childlike trust in God.
