Hi! My name is Kirby and I am from the great state of Texas. I was born and raised in Sugar Land (suburb of Houston) and went to college at Abilene Christian University. Going on the World Race was a 5 year dream of mine which came true last September! (second generation J SQUAD!) Lord willing, I will be moving to Gainesville in January to take part in the CGA (Center for Global Action). I can’t wait!

During my freshman year of college I started researching about mission trip opportunities and of course, I found Adventures in Missions. At this time, the World Race was just starting up. I thought to myself, “One of these days, I’m going to do this. I’m going to embark on a radical year of abandonement and go to the Nations!” I knew I would not pursue going on the WR until after I graduated so I started looking into their summer trips and decided to go to Nicaragua. I packed my bags and flew to Gainesville, Georgia not knowing what to expect for my first ever mission trip. I loved training camp. I loved my team. I loved the ministries we partnered with while in Granada. I loved the beautiful children and their contagious joy. I loved experiencing true community for the first time in my life. I can still remember the cry fest my team had at the airport before we all parted ways. We had known each other for four weeks. Most of us could not contain the overwhelming amout of tears shedding from our eyes. After I came home, I started praying that God would provide community whenever I returned for the fall at ACU. He did! For the next two years I learned what it meant to truly live life with people. I learned how to expose the most broken places of my heart and feel no shame or condemnation. I learned how to honor others with encouraging words. I learned how to pray fervently with boldness and confidence. I experienced the most amazing times of worship where there was complete freedom to dance, sing, shout, kneel, be still, or whisper pleas to God. I found out who I am in Christ. My brothers and sisters prayed over me, encouraged me, taught me, humbled me, and loved me. They drew me closer to discovering more of the nature of our God. He is so kind. He is gentle. He is near. His love is everlasting. He is always faithful. He is rich in mercy. He knows me. He calls me by name. He is my comforter, rock, redeemer, and loyal friend. He will never leave me. I am His.
I left Abilene and that beautiful community behind to come back home to Sugar Land. I had no idea what life would look like as a college graduate with no real “plans.” I began to wonder if this was the time for me to finally sign up for the World Race. After 5 years of talking about it, reading a ridiculous amount of blogs, praying and asking God for clarity, I decided to GO!
I love learning random facts about people so I will share with you some of mine:
I do not get by with any source of caffeine. I gave up sodas a while back and can’t stand to drink coffee or tea. Ugh, yuck.
I got baptized month 7 in Lake Malawi on the same day my Mom was baptized in America. So sweet.
I always had a stash of peanut butter on me. I would carry multiple jars just in case..
Overall, Cambodia was my favorite month on the race.
Tanzania was my hardest.
God healed me completely of IBS in Malawi. Thank you Lord!!
People call me Kirbs, Kirbo, Kirbster, Kirb, Coiby (inside joke) etc. My first team called me Shirby. Another inside joke.
I attempted to play soccer in the 4th grade. Bad idea. I scored 1 goal in two seasons. I quit and became a dancer.
BUT, my competitive side will come out when playing a game of Taboo or Madgab!
I love handmade journals.
Sunny and 60’s weather is my favorite.
I have a heart for people with special needs.
I love big dogs and fear large cats. Actually, I have a fear of all cats.
I traveled abroad to Oxford, England during my sophomore year of college and I loved every minute of it.
I have an addiction to buying books and I desperately need accountability to actually read them.

Most of us could not contain the overwhelming amout of tears shedding from our eyes. Goodness, I can’t imagine what it will be like parting ways with people you’ve lived life with for a year. We’ll get to that when the time comes. After I came home, I started praying that God would provide community whenever I returned for the fall at ACU. He did! This is a poem I wrote which expresses my heart and God’s calling for me to share His love across the earth.
Four years of college have come and gone,
so ready to be movin’ on.
Some may see my destiny as working 9-5,
but I’ve got other plans,
going to the Nations to see spirits revived.
The call to GO has not escaped from my heart,
speaking truth, praying boldly, I know He will impart.
I picture the broken, lame, and mute,
knowing He is so desperate for their pursuit.
I see the Kingdom exalted in all the earth,
healing and redemption from all that brings hurt.
I will go from place to place, sharing the good news,
knowing that if I give everything within me,
I cannot lose.

I am not a morning person.
I love to DANCE!
Strawberries, bananas, and peanut butter are my favorite foods.
People call me Kirbs, Kirbo, Kirbster, Kirb, Coiby (inside joke) etc. I’m sure my teammates will come up with others!
I attempted to play soccer in the 4th grade. Bad idea. I’m really bad at sports.
BUT, my competitive side will come out when playing a game of Taboo or Madgab!
I love handmade journals.
I like to cook, especially Pioneer Woman recipes.
Sunny and 60’s weather is my favorite.
I’ve never seen a mountain. I’m dying to go to Colorado!

I’m 5’0. Shortest on the squad? We’ll see. 🙂
