Greetings Reader,

So I’ve been home for about two weeks and I’ve been struggling on how to explain my experience about my adventures at Training Camp. After a long debate with myself and help from a friend I’ve decided on a a few big lessons that I’ve learned. So without further ado… here are a few things I have learned.

  1. I can live without comfort.

During this stay at training camp God took away all my comfort. My sleeping pad broke, my sleeping bag ripped (or so I thought), my rain suit ripped down every seam, and I forgot my shampoo! Each day I woke up with a different obstacle and I found out that I didn’t need the things that I came to rely on so much.

  1. I’m not alone

As a follower of Jesus we do our best to live our lives so that his sacrifice won’t be in vain. Sometimes looking around we see that no else is taking it as seriously as we are. In our eyes they aren’t trying hard enough. At training camp I met people who had so much grace and understanding I felt like I belonged. I didn’t have to try so hard because they gave their love as freely as Jesus gave his. I was truly blessed by the family I made there and cannot wait to travel the world with them.

  1. God gave me a talent

Last year when my family and I went to Nicaragua I was bought a new camera so that I could capture our trip. I had no idea that I would enjoy it so much. I was extremely proud of myself, but I never really picked up my camera again until I got to training camp. When I began taking photos God filled my head with ideas and once again I was in awe of what He showed me through the lens of a camera. I saw God’s love for these people I just met and he had me display it. I’m so excited for this chance to be able to bring God’s love through pictures and I hope people will truly see it.

  1. I still love the rain.

The weather was near perfect the first half of training camp until they sent us our on a little overnight camp out. Once we got there it began to pour, but it never dampened my spirits. I’ve never had so much fun. Playing Phase 10 with 8 people crammed into a wet picnic table, catching little intervals of sleep, and sitting around a fire laughing until the sun came up.

  5. I can finish strong.

I have always been a great starter and a horrible finisher. (I can’t tell you how many times I have rewritten this blog.) On the second to last day I woke up with horrific back pain. It took everything I had just to walk from class to class. I knew that I was under spiritual attack and it ticked me off. A team mate of mine saw that I was in pain and instead of going to our last class she stayed with me and comforted me. After we prayed my pain subsided and I was able to enjoy the rest of my time.

So there are some things God has taught me through this trip. I’ll be blogging about some personal tips about training camp soon. Thank you all for your support and prayers.

They will never go unnoticed.

With Gratitude, Kirbie Head World Racer
