Although I really enjoyed my bungee jumping experience, it was not my favourite part of my day. The best part of my day was simply being at the resort and meeting people from all over the world. I am certain I missed some of the nationalities that were represented that day at the resort, but I know I met people who came from Russia, Sweden, France, Israel, England, Australia, Nepal, India, and my favourite nationality, Netherlands! I really enjoyed hearing all the different languages and accents that were flowing through the air in the conversations around me and being able to talk with the people too.
Even though it was my ‘off’ day from set, scheduled ministry, I felt the Lord speak very clearly to me something that has stuck with me since.
“You life is a ministry. There is no on and off times for ministry. Because I am in you, you are always representing me no matter what you are doing or where you are. Be ready to show Me to those you meet, always.”
I took those words to heart and made sure to be ready for whatever may come me way in terms of people and conversations. I wanted to show the world a true and real example of who Jesus is, even if my plans for the day consisted of going bungee jumping.
After I had bungee jumped I waited down at the bottom for Audra to jump as well. As I waited at the bottom for her I was able to chat briefly with many people as they passed by me to make their way back to the resort after their own jump. I was able to chat with a guy who was born in Nepal but grew up in Australia and just talk with him and get to know a little about him. I met a young guy from India who I was able to have a really great talk with. I enjoyed the conversation we had and the Lord even opened the door for me to share the gospel with him! I don’t know what my new Indian friend took away from our talk, but I know my part was to just obey the Lord when He opened the door for me to Jesus with him and trust for the Lord to work in his heart. Audra and I also got to share our faith with a guy from Israel on the bus trip back to Kathmandu at the end of our day. I could have easily tuned out the words the Lord spoke.
I could have checked out of any conversations that would be related to my faith since it was my ‘off’ day from our scheduled ministry. I could have stayed quiet and in my cozy comfort zone that I often love to hide in. But thankfully God gave me the courage to step out of my comfort zone. I chose to not check out or stay quite. Instead I chose to truly live out my faith, to share it and to not separate my life into two parts: ministry Kira and daily life Kira. As basic as it may sound to some, I realized strongly on my adventure day of bungee jumping that my whole life is to always be a reflection of who I am in Christ and that there is never a time to turn on and turn off my faith and call to share Jesus with the world. I want my life to reflect Jesus so well and strongly that people are drawn to Him because of how clearly they see Him in and through me.
