Friday, August 23rd my team took to the soccer pitch for our last game of the season, the championship game. My team worked hard all season to make it to this point and we wanted nothing less then to end the season with a victory. Some of the team came to the game excited, some nervous, some cool and calm. I was a bit of the first two, but more excited than nervous. I was anxious to get the game started and just wanted to play some soccer. The game started out with our team on the defense as our opponents pressed us hard from the opening kick. It took us a little bit, but we eventually found our rhythm and the momentum started to shift. We kept the pressure on them and even scored…but it was called offside. We had some good chances but couldn't find the back of the net. The half-time whistle blew and the score remained 0-0.

The team was playing well, we were working hard and keeping the pressure on our opposition, but we were in need of a goal. We took to the field to begin the 2nd half and it started out better than the 1st. Not long after the second half kick-off my team took the lead! 1-0 for yellow!!! Our team celebrated with much excitement but we knew there was still a lot of game left to play. Not long after my team took the lead, we doubled our lead with a second goal! 2-0 for yellow!!! We looked to be in control of the game now. We were still playing well and now had a 2 goal lead to show for it. Then the other team were pushing us hard into our own half got a present, a penalty kick. They calmly put the ball into out net to narrow our lead back to 1 goal. We were shaken up a bit from their goal and needed to regroup and shift the momentum.

Time was winding down and we were still holding on to our 2-1 lead. One more goal for us would definitely put the game out of reach for our opponents, who were becoming tired and injured as the game went on, and we were given a golden opportunity to get that third goal. Late into the half we were awarded a penalty kick of our own…3-1 for yellow!!! The keeper had no chance and our team now had that third goal we were looking for.

The final whistle blew…WE WON!!! We were the champions! Cheers came from the fans and our team all ran together, high-fives and hugs everywhere! It was an exciting and well earned victory!

I am going to miss my soccer team next year. They have been great to play with and to get to know over the past 2 years. They are a great group and I will definitely be cheering for them next year!
GO TEAM GO!!!
