Before I left for my trip, Vietnam was the one country I was not looking forward to.  I didn’t know a whole lot about the country but I just had no desire to ever go there.

Those thoughts and feelings are so funny to think about now because I absolutely loved my time in Vietnam.  Ministry there looked a lot different since my team and I were not openly allowed to say the name of Jesus or pray for people publicly.  Since it is a closed country, we had to be careful with what we would say about why we were in Vietnam.  Even though we were not necessarily outwardly proclaiming our faith, it was amazing to see how the Lord worked.  We would simply be following the Spirit’s leading with what to say, and when to say it.  One thing the Lord clearly showed me while I was in Vietnam was He didn’t need us to use words all the time.  He used our personalities and our actions to share His love with the people we met there.  By using ways other than our words to share His love, relationships were built with many of the people we met.  Those relationships grew and before we knew it, we were getting to tell people how much God loved them!  One guy told me the first day I was there that he wasn’t religious.  A couple weeks later he was asking me about Jesus and Christianity and I got to share the gospel with him!  It was so cool to see how people could see Jesus through us and that they wanted to know Him.

Sometimes actions can speak loud.

I am glad that I was able to spend a month in Vietnam.  It was without a doubt one of the best months of my trip and I was sad to leave.  I am thankful for the the people I met while I was there and for the things God let me see and do.  He is doing big things in Vietnam and I am blessed to know I got to see a small part of that!
