Pretty exhausted. Last night Charlene and I had the first overnight shift in the toddler room. 10p-6a. We had been asleep about 30 minutes when one of the babies woke up screaming and burning up. He has cerebral palsy and that day he had been running a fever too. So he’s freaking out and Charlene and I are trying to comfort him, we’re not sure what he wants, or what to do. I think he just wanted the house mom and not Charlene and I.
So I get to bouncing and patting his butt, say a little prayer, start walking around the kitchen and back to his room and he finally starts calming down. Hallelujah. Then the house mom opens the front door and he hears it and starts freaking out again. I gladly handed him off.
So she made up a pallet and handled him all night. He whimpered and cried and coughed all night long. But other than that we didn’t have any major meltdown from kids and we actually slept a lot more then I expected.
So overnight shift was definitely new and took me out of my comfort zone, but I’m glad I had Charlene with me and hopefully it’ll be easier as the kids start recognizing us.
So on top of all that, just pray for our health and the kids health and immune systems. A few girls are already getting sick and it’ll take a miracle to come out of here with all these coughing and hacking kiddos without getting sick at some point.
Other than that, it’s 7a, breakfast time, and the sun is already shining it’s going to be a beautiful day. I think I woke up on the right side of the bed because despite the nerve-racking overnight shift, this was the first face that greeted me this morning. 🙂
