Home. Some consider home a house, some the people, and some the place where dog hair is. To say the least, the race has redefined what the word “home” means to me now.

Growing up, I had considered one place home: my house on Yampa Way with my parents and sister there. When my sister moved to Greeley for college, I felt like a part of my “home” was missing. I began to realize that I felt at home when I was at school participating in activities or at Church because I was surrounded by people I loved and people who loved me.

That was the key for me: home is being surrounded by people I love and people who love me.

As I have traveled to 9 countries now, I have felt at home in each place. A few weeks ago, I found out that the house mom from the children’s home in Lesotho that I partnered with, passed away suddenly. My heart ached for the staff there and all the kids. I wanted to be back home in Lesotho to mourn and comfort with my family there.

The more I think about it, I long to be back singing with the children at the care point in Swaziland and cuddling the babies in South Africa. I look forward to the time I can revisit the Bible study in Vietnam, play the a-b-c game in Cambodia and practice English with the students at the foundation in Thailand. Someday, if God calls me back, I would love to prayer walk in Nicaragua and worship in Costa Rica with Conexion again. I have found a home in every place as I have always found God’s presence.

The more I travel and the larger my family in Christ becomes, the harder it is to feel at home, and yet the easier it is.

God has reminded me to press into him. We will always be home with Him when we are seeking His presence. However, no matter where we are physically, we will never be truly home until we are with Him in heaven.

 Much love,

Kimmy

This month we are on the sunny island of  Jamaica. We are staying in Portmore which is a suburb of Kingston. We are working with a local church, assisting in the preschool, doing construction, evangelizing, and participating in the life of the church. We have a church member cooking for us and we have eaten nothing but new and interesting foods. We have tried jerk chicken, curry goat, and chicken foot soup to namd a few. Everyone is so welcoming and hospitable.

Thanks for the continued prayers! I am still going strong on the race!
