I went for a run the other day down to the river trail. I was jogging mostly to clear my mind. Upon doing that, I had been telling God exactly what I needed, without thought of His response. I reached the bridge and stopped to breathe and listen. It hit me like a bomb.
Seize the Day.
“You are so caught up with your count downs to graduation and launch. Seize the day, Kimmy.” God was whispering to my heart. “You have socks that say ‘Carpe the heck out of this diem’, your good friend Randy said ‘Seize the day’ every morning last summer, and you and Amy loved the Newsie’s song, ‘Seize the Day’ growing up. Are you paying attention to any of these winks I am sending you? Seize the day, Kimmy.”
Then the water works came. I am leaving. I am leaving not just for a year but everything is going to change. A lot of my friends are graduating and moving on too. I pray that it will not be a “good bye”, but a “see you later”. I need to take advantage of the time I have left to get coffee with people, hang out with friends, and look up every time I am outside at the majestic mountains I am lucky enough to live in.
I then remembered a song I used to sing growing up. The melody is imprinted with my Mom’s voice in my head. It is about praising God for the day He has given us. It wasn’t until years later that I realized it was a Psalm.
“This is the day that the Lord has made;
let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24
Seize the day, Kimmy. I pray that as I am finishing up one chapter of my life, I would not rush and skim the last pages, but enjoy the beauty of the writing that God is creating.
