Jamaica
Ministry Summary: This month we partnered with Cumberland Community Church in Portmore Jamaica. We assisted in the Basic School (Preschool School), dug an area in the front of the church to help build a path, and attended Bible studies and worship services.
Adventure Highlights:
- Got Cornrows while exploring downtown Kingston
- Went snorkeling in Ocho Rios
What God taught me: God gave me the words “just pray” this month. He taught me to sit in His presence and just pray.
Haiti
Ministry Summary: We spent our month in Montrous (pronounced Mow-wee) Haiti, a village one hour outside of Port-au-Prince. We worked with the organization, Supply and Multiply, who looks for sustainable ways to bring the gospel to the people. During the month we spent time with the residents at their elderly home, walked around several villages doing street care (evangelism), and visited elderly in our neighborhood to help with chores. We also ran Bible clubs and women’s groups in different neighborhoods, churches and orphanages. Once a week we hung out at the school’s soccer field playing games and singing. We also spent a lot of time praying as the ministry is preparing to go into a village that knows nothing but voodoo.
Adventure Highlights:
- Snorkeling at a private beach
- Hiking nine miles up a mountain to a fresh water spring
What God taught me: God has perfect timing. I don’t always understand what He is doing, where He is leading me, or why, but through it all, He is perfect, good and holy.
Dominican Republic
Ministry Summary: For the last month of the race, my team, along with three other teams, are with H.O.P.E. for the DR in Lajas Dominican Republic. H.O.P.E. stands for Helping Others Pursue Eternity. We are in the mountains, surrounded by sights of beauty and peaceful sounds of God’s creation. I could not have asked for a better place to end the race. Our ministry has been mainly manual labor. We cleaned rocks out of the water fall (which is also our shower), laid a path with the rocks, and then built a playground with another construction group that was here for a few days. I taught violin lesson twice a week to the daughter of our ministry hosts. We have also spent time prayer walking around the village and building relationships with the shop owners and local kids.
Adventure Highlights:
- Explored Santiago for a day
- Spent a day on the beach in Puerto Plata
- Jumped and slid down seven waterfalls
What God taught me: God asked me to depend on him in silence this month. I spent this month not listening to music, but soaking in the sounds of nature. God led me to depend and trust Him daily instead of trying to plan out uncontrollable and unimportant details on going home.
The wifi has been too slow to upload pictures, so look for them in the future. I am currently at final debrief with my squad in Puerto Plata. We have nightly worship and sessions to share how God has moved in our lives. We also meet one-on-one with people in leadership to continue to discuss transitioning back home. I am getting more excited to be back home; bitter sweet for sure. I will touch down onto American soil on Friday. Thanks for the prayers, support and for going with me on this crazy journey called the World Race. See you all super soon!
Lots of love,
Kimmy
