Four hours of riding the chicken bus, five hours of sleeping at the bus terminal, a hamburger that contained mystery meat, we finally made it to Hue Hue Tenanga yesterday around 9:00 PM.
Tonight we went to our first foreign church service of the race. Jess gave her testimony and then we performed an impromptu worship song (Hosana). First of all, we all thought we were going to sing Shout to the Lord, much to our dismay we didn’t know the words and we ended up singing Hosana. Jess’ mic kept screeching, Cori gave up half way, and I was just swaying and singing to myself because my mic wasn’t on. Luke was in the pews and tried to conduct us, because we couldn’t’ hear AJ, the worship leader. Luckily no one understands english, eventually they applauded us and we stepped down. It was hilarious!! I wish someone could have video taped it because it was ridiculous!
Anyway, the service was beautiful. Even though I couldn’t understand much of the sermon, I was still able to worship the Lord in my own way. One of the passages the pastor talked about was Ecclesiastes 3 which talks about the seasons of life and that there’s a time for everything. It was really good for me to read, especially at this point in my walk. I feel that I’ve been through a lot of seasons in that matter of two months. Verse twelve reminds me that even though I get stressed out about work, friends, family, the race, what i’ll be doing after the race, what i’ll be doing on the race, etc. that “there is nothing better than to be happy and enjoy ourselves as long as we can”. I love the quote by Mark Twain, “I’ve seen many troubles in my time, only half of which ever came true”. I think I have a major tendency to worry too much, especially recently. So this passage was definitely good for me to hear.
