My Squad and I arrived in Prishtina Kosova one week ago and basically had to hit the ground running (and honestly I wouldn’t have wanted to start this month out any other way)!
This week we got to be part of a HUGE Evangelism outreach called #IMPACTKOSOVA2018 that involved HUNDREDS of people from all over the world (shout out to the Texas group who gave us a much needed taste of home this week)!!
Here is what a typical day looked like this week (while our whole Squad is together this month… my team is the only one that went to a different city for Evangelism while the rest of the Squad stayed in Prishtina)
10am-12pm ~ Meeting at Prishtina High School where we would worship, share testimonies from the previous day, and get details about what we were doing for that day
12pm-2:30pm ~ Lunch and Team-time/Feedback/Rest
2:30pm ~ Walk to the Dormitories to get on a bus to head to Gjakova/Suhareka
3pm ~ Bus left Dormitories
5pm(ish) ~ We arrived in Gjakova/Suhareka
6pm-8:30pm ~ Evangelism in the main Square in town
8:30pm ~ Get on bus to head back to Prishtina
10:15/10:30pm ~ Arrive back in Prishtina, grab dinner and head home
12am/1am ~ Go to bed
If I am being 100% honest… Evangelism scares me and isn’t something I am comfortable with as it requires me to step so far outside my comfort zone I can’t even look back and see it – but I want to share a story with you from our first night doing Evangelism in Gjakova.
Each of us Internationals were paired up with an Albanian so they could translate for us if the person we were talking to didn’t speak English. I got paired up with a wonderful young woman named Visare and we headed out to find locals to talk with and hopefully share The Gospel with. The first few we talked to didn’t really seem all that interested, so we prayed for them and moved on… but as we were talking to this one older gentleman, a young man who was 17 years old came up and was really interested in what we were talking about, so after we finished the survey with the older gentleman we then took the time to talk to this young man and have him answer the survey questions.
After we were done with the survey questions, me and Visare headed across the street to see if we could find someone else to talk to… and this young man followed us. We didn’t end up talking to anyone else, and pretty soon it became time to head back to the square to meet up with the group and head back to the bus for the ride to Prishtina, and as we were walking back the young man was still following us and we just sensed God tell us to ask him if he had ever accepted Jesus into his heart, so we did and he said he didn’t think so.
Visare then began to share the Gospel with him in Albanian and as she was doing that an older gentleman cam up and was super interested in what she was saying so he sat down to listen and pretty soon began to have an intense and heated discussion, so Visare turned to me and asked me to pray and ask The Holy Spirit to come in and calm the situation, and as I was doing this, the young man turned to me and said…
“You and me, right now… I want to accept Jesus into my heart!” I then got to sit and pray with this young man as he accepted Jesus into his heart. After we prayed and he accepted Jesus, Visare asked him if he felt any different and he said he felt more happy.
Then as we were walking back to the Square I felt God prompt me to give him my Key necklace (us Racers were all gifted a Key at Launch that had a word or verse on it that had been prayed of for each of us – mine had 2 Timothy 1:7), so I listened and gave him my Key.
I am still in such awe that God chose me to lead this young man home to Jesus. Please be praying for him (his name is Valentin)!
