Some of you have already heard about my passionate dislike for ants. Well, it continues to grow.
It all started with those pesky little fire ants in Georgia during our training camp. They are everywhere and get into everything. If you stop moving for more than a few minutes, they are all over you.
In Palenque, Mexico, I was attacked by ants while picking up rotting fruit on Eleazar´s property. I had bites all over my toes and ankles. They swell up with a little blister that can be very painful. It hurt to wear shoes.
Now I am in Costa Rica, and they are still after me. A few nights ago, I was woken up at 11:30pm by mosquitos bitting my arms. I reluctently got up and put on bug spray. You would think that would be enough torture for one night, but no.
Early the next morning when I got up to read, I felt something poking me. I looked down expecting to find dirt on my mattress, but instead I found ants. Ants!
I jumped up and put on my shoes to go to the bathroom, and what do you think happened? I quickly discovered that the ants were inside my flip flops, and they were now all over my feet and biting.
I ran to the back room and threw my shoes in the shower to rinse them off, but something was still biting me. I soon realized they were also inside my pants.
Needless to say what happened next.
Meanwhile, Kelly was in the back room wondering what was going on. She innocently calls out to me, “are you getting in the shower?”, with a curious tone to her voice. I screamed back, “No, there are ants in my pants!”, to which she responds “Oh, that´s funny; well not really”.
I of course was not ammused.
Later that night, as we prepared for bed, I sprayed the floor with bug spray and was about to put the mattress down. What do you think I saw?
The entire one side of the mattress was covered in dead ants! I tried to brush them off, but they were not coming off. They were embedded in the foam. There was no way I was sleeping on that mat again.
I resolved to sleeping directly on the floor that night, but gracious Michelle would not allow it. As I was in the back brushing my teeth, she pulled out a different mat from the back room for me to sleep on. I love Michelle!
I am still suffering physically and emotionally from that ant attack. My left foot is swollen and it hurts wear even my flip flops. My right calf also has several bites and is so swollen that it feels tight and sore when I walk. I tried to get a picture, but it doesn´t show much.
Did I tell you how much I hate ants!!!!!!!
