On our way to training camp we kept asking would you rather questions. For example: Would you rather watch a sunrise or a sunset? This month I was able to see each and both were spectacular and took my breath away. We were able to watch countless sunsets while at Jaco’s in Mozambique and then this morning Jenni and I got up early to watch the sun rise over the mountains at debrief in South Africa. As I watched and waited for the sunrise God gave me great pictures of who He is in both.
Sitting for an hour this morning I watched the sky slowly change colors. I saw the mountains fade from almost unrecognizable into distinct and clear. As the sun slowly crept it’s way up the mountain it expelled the darkness and revealed the land for what it is. Then the moment we had waited for happened, the first glimmers of daylight shined powerfully like jewels over the peak of the mountainside. The rays of sun were almost too much to look at. There is a power in the sunrise that invigorates you and makes you want to jump up and down with great joy. (Some of you who are not morning people might not agree:)!) What a picture of God! As He comes into our lives He expels the darkness and reveals us for what we are. He gives us strength and power to fight whatever comes our way throughout the day with clear and distinct truth. I’m sure I could come up with many more ways to see God in the sunrise…I love watching the night fade into day!
The sunset, on the other hand, is quick and fading. As the sun tucks itself into the earth it’s rays brilliantly shine for one last moment before the night swallows it up. In those last moments, the sun gives off incredible colors that leave you with a peaceful and calm heart. To me, this is a picture of romance. God romances us, leaving us thankful to him for all of the wonderful things that He has done for us throughout the day. It’s a colorful display of how much He loves us and shows us His beauty. The love of God is seen all throughout creation…I love it!

One thing I ask of the Lord, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to seek him in his temple. Psalm 27:4
