“My great concern is not whether you have failed, but whether you are content with your failure.”
– Abraham Lincoln
A prominent man in all of our histories is Abraham Lincoln. The stories of his life are numerous. Most of the stories deal with his presidency and the great things he accomplished in his life. Abraham Lincoln is very inspirational to the modern hard working American. The story of his life has inspired me, but it wasn’t until now that I am starting to realize what he had to go through. The devestations he had to endure along with the failures he had to overcome were great. But looking through the list of his failures as compared to the things he accomplished in his life, the good far outweighed the bad. If Lincoln would have stopped at any of his failures, we would not have known his greatest achievement. Failures do not mean that we have failed at life. Failures are a chance to go back to the drawing board with God and find out what is next on the list of things to accomplish or fail at! Check out more of Abraham Lincoln’s story if you don’t know it already, it is a great story!
This week at Project Searchlight we have been looking at our Kingdom Dreams and our Personal Dreams. I know that most of my life I have not even dared to dream dreams that are beyond what my practical mind would call realistic. I have been immobilized by fear. I have lived my life thinking that I was not created to be the kind of person that dares to dream dreams and accomplish great things for the Kingdom of God. If I saw a need I would be the one saying, “Wow, that would be really helpful!” Then I would do nothing about it. Today as I talked to Cathy Lucas, one of our amazing coaches, I rambled on and on about what my near and distant dreams are. I am so excited to share my dream with others. This time I am not afraid of failure. I am excited to see what God is going to do. This isn’t to say that my dreams are all going to succeed or that I will not fall flat on my face. But just the willingness to step out and grasp hold of what God has placed on my heart is such a new and life changing thing to me. My time here on earth is very short and I want to use as much of the time I have doing all I can to bring glory to God. He is the one who has lifted me from fear and timidity and has placed me on the rock of my identity in Him, Kimberly Christ Hillebrand, daughter of the Most High God!
