So we were headed up the mountain, it was a very rainy day on a muddy red dirt road in a large 22 passenger van, when the tires started slipping… We were backsliding… And slightly freaking out… We could fall off the mountain, literally! Then I started praying… Jesus give us the boost we need to make it up this mountain! Before we even started up it, the drivers were worried we might not make it. But then we began moving forward, the tires caught traction, and we all cheered with joy! Thank you Jesus.

This was my first real adventure in Swaziland, the first of many. Finally we arrived at beautiful El Shaddai children’s home, situated on a mountain top with some amazing views, just stunning. Pictures just don’t do it justice.

At first I didn’t know what to make of this place. It is very much rural Africa. Most people farm, live in simple concrete homes with tin rooves and most have electricity. They live simple lives and work very hard. I got a taste of that since this month one of my main ministries I participated in was manual labor, which included farming and working in the fields. It is tough and they don’t really use machinery around here that I have noticed. You do all the work with your hands and I have mad respect for these people. I also got to learn how to plaster. That was fun. It felt like I was slinging poo on the wall. Good times!

In the beginning, I was unsure of how I would like it here,  but they kept telling us it could be one of our best months and how this place has all this potential, and in the back of my mind I was like, “Okay, yeah right.” But God had a lot to reveal and change in my heart, and he did. I fell in love with this mountain and the beautiful children on it.
