So first of all I just wanted to apologize to all you lovely people back home trying to keep up with me, I haven’t had the best time trying to post blogs. Internet just isn’t the same in the rest of the world as it is there, so be thankful! It doesn’t help that 47 other people are trying to get on the same WiFi connection an post blogs too.
Anyways, I wanted to tell you a little about our ministry from last month. Simon’s town has become a very special place in my heart over the course of the last month. We got to work with many ages of kids at Simon’s Town school, with the PT/PE class with coach Bradley. He is an amazing man of God, using his talent and passion of sports to spread God’s love and truth. We got to build relationships and share stories with the kids. My favorite thing was when we would do stations during PT class and after doing the activity, we’d just sit and chat with the students, tell them about Jesus, let them ask questions, and pray for them. Let me tell you, there are some really amazing kids at that school that I had the privilege to meet and be blessed by. I know I an supposed to be sharing and blessing them, but that is the wonderful thing as about ministry, it is often a two way street of joy and blessing. I definitely tried to press in this first month, and it paid off. I made some life and eternity long connections, Beginning with the Chettys, the Abels, then Bradley, Uncle Shaddie, and the sweet students, especially the hostelites. I sure do miss them.
Friday nights, we’d go to an activity called “youth” where some of the church and community kids would come and we’d have a little devotional. The first Friday was normal but the next Friday we went with our host family up to the hostel to chat with the hostelites. Just some background on how things work there: the school has a variety of students that attend from all over Cape Town, and some from outside that attend. While they attend, they live in the hostel across the road from the school. It is owned and ran by the school but these kids are far from home and won’t get to see their parents until the end of the semester/term. They need guidance and love, so our host parents went up and met them where they were at. We talked with them about their dreams, fears, and challenges they faced when they first came to live in the hostel, away from their families. They really opened up to us and we were able to share Jesus with them. I am so happy that even though we have to leave, there are awesome people who were working before and will be working in the kids lives when we leave.
So in short, my time in Simons Town was awesome. Its evident that God is at work there. I bawled on our bus ride out of Cape Town. I think I will return though, if the Lord so wills. Love y’all!
The past few days we have been relaxing and processing at debrief, and it’s been nice but Tomorrow we leave to start month two, at El Shaddi children’s home in Swaziland. Keep my team and squad in your prayers.
