Cape Town holds a lot of memories for my team. There are a lot of world race ‘firsts’ there. We made life long connections with our wonderful host family, the teachers and students of Simons Town School, and overall it was just a wonderful experience for our first month of the race. All that being said, it was so hard to leave. I knew coming on a trip like this, leaving each month to go to the next place would be one of the poopiest parts, but I have learned to also see the joy at that time. The joy in knowing you and Jesus made an impact on others, seeing fruit, and knowing that there will be more fruit to come. There is also joy in the fact of knowing that even though your leaving, Jesus is still working strong in that place and the people there. Lastly, we can have joy in knowing that even though we’re leaving one place, we are on our way to another to do the same thing again: bring the love and truth of Jesus to somewhere new, and shine his light there.
So whenever you find yourself at the end of one chapter in life and perhaps reluctantly looking on to the next one, just look for the joy. I promise you it’s there.
