So I would like to take you to a wonderful, beautiful place atop a mountain in Swaziland called El Shaddai and walk you through what a typical day of ministry was for us, during our stay.
7:15 ish – Wake up. Spend some quiet time with Jesus in prayer. Take in the scenery. Eat breakfast, which usually consisted of one of the following: Wheat bix (nasty stuff, like corn flakes but a lot of fiber, and no good flavor…blech, I stayed away from the stuff), Porridge (yes, like the three little bears ate. flavors were banana, strawberry, vanilla, and my fave, toffee.) or a peanut butter sammy.

8:00 am – Begin the work day! I was normally on the work crew. Other ministries that you could partake in were: Intercession (prayer & worship), baby house (taking care of the young’uns), helping teach preschool, clean the pig pens, and cleaning crew. While on the work crew, we did things like: dig trenches for water lines (in very rocky soil too!), paint signs, build soccer goals, plastering, work in the garden weeding corn fields, digging rows, planting, hauling grass, and other various jobs.

10:00 am – Water break!! Maybe get a snack depending on how much you ate for breakfast.
12:00 am – Work time is over, now its time for Lunch!! Lunch was usually a peanut butter and honey or jelly sammy, or sometimes a hot dog, tuna, or grilled cheese. After lunch, you have a few hours to chill out, read bible, play games and socialize, or my personal favorite, take a nap!

3:00 pm – Go hang out with the kids and have tutoring time, to help them with their homework.
5:00 pm – tutoring time is over, now you can just hang out until chapel
5:30 pm – Chapel! This is where all the kids go down to the church and our teams would take turns leading it. when my team did it, we acted out Daniel and the Lions Den, sang songs, and memorized a bible verse. It was fun.
5:00 to 8:00 pm – Dinner time and Team Time! We would plan, prepare, and cook our own meals each evening as a team, then eat together and have some kind of team activity, like a bible study, movie, or just hang out and talk.
After Team Time, you were free to hang out with the squad, shower, and prepare for bed. You probably won’t want to stay up to late, you’ve had a FULL day and gotta start early again tomorrow!! Another day of fun and adventure to look forward to in Swaziland!! 😀
