Today was our off- day, and while good, it was super frustrating…a lot of first world problems. We were originally planning to have our off-day yesterday, but flexibility is a theme for the race. Things changed and now our day is Sunday. So we get to the new mall in Tegucigalpa and go to this fancy two-story Wendy’s for breakfast and Internet. Everyone’s Internet seemed to be working well, but mine was terrible. The only thing I could do was update where I was living on Facebook and upload some pictures. I forgot my USB so I couldn’t post my blogs, and I forgot earphones, meaning I couldn’t Skype with my family and friends. Then, when we leave and return home, I drop my latte all over the floor (practically full) and I had a quick panic moment when I thought I lost my squad leader’s iPhone…luckily I found it. All these little things were minor, but I let them get me down and frustrated.
It’s like I forgot that I was in a third world country and I should not expect awesome Internet connection. We learned at World Race launch that every time someone gets negative and starts complaining, we play the thankful game. You pretty much start saying what you are thankful for. So I’m thankful for my health, a family that is worth being upset over the fact that I didn’t get to Skype with them, and friends that would buy me a latte (shout out to Markelle). So I challenge everybody that gets their day ruined over first world problems to play the thankful game; it’s amazing how it can change your mood.
