One event that I’m still processing since Training Camp was the night where my squad and I were dancing and hanging out. Loud music was playing, and it appeared that most of us were having fun, but there were little hints/ events that kept making my stomach feel off. I was about to grab my sweater and leave the hall to find a quiet place to pray when suddenly members of AIM’s Worship Team ran in the hall and shone Light on the dark situation all of us were in.
I’m pretty sure the song “Royals” was playing when they came in. One young woman respectfully and lovingly remarked that as we were listening to a song with lyrics such as “We’ll never be royals” we weren’t honoring the royalty that actually IS within each of us as we created and were staying in the kind of atmosphere we were in. Those words hit me hard, and convicted me so deeply that I’m still thinking about it and processing it. I was so convicted that I felt the urge to rewrite the songs’ lyrics, and make the song a declaration, a musical declaration of how we are INDEED Royalty. I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
