I’ve really been enjoying the words from God’s word. Taking it one step further, I’ve been studying how simple prefixes and suffixes are so important to a word’s meaning. Read below to learn the true meaning of the prefix “con”. Through this study, I’ve learned that the ‘cons’ of being a Christian aren’t so bad after all.
The prefix ‘con’ means: to be together with. When we confess, consider, and confide, Jesus is giving us specific instructions how to connect with Him!
“Con” No. 1 consider – to think carefully about (something), typically before making a decision.
James 1:2 &3 (NIV) says: Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,
whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know
that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.
Through this Scripture, God is telling us that we have the power to be on the side and point of view that Jesus Himself has about every situation. Jesus saw every situation as an opportunity to grow closer to His Father. So, the important question is, when tough situations arise, and circumstances aren’t what you think they ought to be, are you on the side with yourself, maybe getting angry and frustrated? Or are you considering with Jesus, seeing your trials as learning experiences and different ways to get closer to your Heavenly Father?
“Con” No. 2 – Confess: 1. to admit or acknowledge something reluctantly, typically because one feels slightly ashamed or embarrassed. 2. declare (one’s religious faith)
James 5:16 (NLT) Confess your sins to each other
and pray for each other so that you may be healed.
The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power
and produces wonderful results.
When we are confessing our sins to God and to each other, it doesn’t mean we have to carry guilt and shame as heavy as the world on our shoulders, it’s simply a time and space to tell God what’s up, we need help, and most importantly, we need HIS help. God promises us all over Scripture that when we ask for help, He’ll be there. If you feel comfortable talking to God (praying) you can talk to Him about anything and everything, from your troubles to your joys to your fears. If talking to someone else is what you prefer, be the brave warrior I know you are and reach out to them. You can do it.
“Con” No. 3 – confide: 1.tell someone about a secret or private matter while trusting them not to repeat it to others. 2. trust (someone) enough to tell them of a secret or private matter. 3.entrust something to (someone) for safekeeping.
What can I say after those definitions? Simply put, Jesus is the One we can trust. We can trust Him with our private matters, with our greatest dreams, with our biggest fears, with our largest annoyances, and our merriest of memories.
The Gospel shows us that Jesus is the Son of God,
He came to earth,
lived with us,
showed us what
true,
unconditional,
love is
by dying for us,
went to hell and heaven,
and then His very Spirit
to live inside
of all who choose to receive the gift
of being saved from the power of sin and death
by believing in Him.
He longs for nothing more than to be involved in our lives, totally, fully.
He is the best Friend anyone could ever have ever wanted or asked for.
Considering, confessing, and confiding.
We all do these things, but who are you doing them with?
