My God will meet all of your needs, according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:19
This morning I was really blessed to have a long conversation with a sister of mine. She told me many good nuggets of wisdom to carry with me as I am about to embark on the Race. She even told me that one day, when she was in one of the Lord’s many rooms, she saw a room with tons of extra food in it. She encouraged me to ask for the things in the rooms to come down to earth, and believe that I will receive them.
‘A room with extra food?’ I wondered. ‘Never thought about it, but ok.’
Today, as I was walking to Target, I reflected on the conversation I had earlier this morning. I lifted my hands in the air and said, “Lord, I am asking for the extra food to come down to earth,” and then thought nothing else of it.
When I made it to Target, I ordered some photos to be processed. I would save 4 cents per print by getting 1 hour photo instead of insta-photos, and a bonus to this was getting to walk around Target to look at some cool things and, more importantly, practicing listening praying, so the 1 hour-photo processing it was.
As I looked around, I saw a bag of rice, and I really wanted to get it and cook it for dinner. Although it was less than a dollar, it just wasn’t a dollar I thought I should spend on rice at that moment. I stood there for a minute and told myself that if I still really wanted to have rice, that I’d buy it after I picked up my pictures.
I picked up my pictures, went to the food section, grabbed a bag of rice, and headed to the checkout.
As I approached the check out, I hear, just in a faint whisper, ” Go to # 12.” So I went.
The lady in front of me was putting her items on the conveyor belt, and so me come up with my singular item: a bag of rice.
The following exchange went something like this:
Lady #1: Oh I’ll be just a minute, someone else is coming with a few more items.
Me: Oh, it’s ok, I’m in no rush.
Lady # 1: Ok, well here she comes. You can buy your rice in between our purchases.
Me: Really, it’s ok, I don’t mind waiting.
Lady # 1 ( to Lady #2): Let this lady buy her rice, ok?
Lady # 2: What?
Lady #1: Let this lady ( points to me) buy her rice.
Me: ( sheepishly) I’m the Rice Lady.
( I place my bag of rice on the ‘wrong’ spot on the conveyor belt, and Lady # 1 moves it. I wait for Lady #1’s transaction to finish, when suddenly, I hear her say to the cashier:
Lady #1:( to the cashier) Let me just get the rice , put it in a bag. (The cashier scans my bag of rice and puts it in a bag)
Lady #1: ( to me) Merry Christmas.
Me: Thank You!
It’s crazy…I prayed for extra food to come down to earth, and the Lord wanted me to know He wanted to provide me with rice to make beans and rice tonight. I know like I know like I know that the only reason why I got this bag of rice was because I asked. I asked the Lord for food, and He Provided. Imagine what he can deliver, if I just ask! Can He provide me with all 11 months worth of school loans?! YES! Can He fully fund me to go on the Race?! YES! He can do anything, anything He wants.
I leave you with a very important verse about asking, seeking and receiving:
Matthew 7:7 & 8 says:
Ask and it will be given to you,
seek and you shall find;
knock, and the door will be opened to you.
For everyone who asks receives,
he who seeks finds,
and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
May you find more of His incredible Joy as you ask, seek and receive!
