Curious about the world race? These are some of the most commonly asked questions about my upcoming journey:
When do you leave?
January 2015!!
What countries are you going to?
Here is my route and in this order. Keep in mind that it is subject to change at any time for a number of different reasons. But for now, we are starting off in South America, heading to Asia, and finishing in Africa!
What about your job?
I’ve talked to HR at my work, and I’m really hoping that I’ll have the opportunity to take a leave of absence -if only for the peace of mind that I’ll have something to return to.
What are you going to do when you get back?
I have no idea… and I’m okay with that. I’ve come to realize that you can’t plan for what your life will be a year from now. I think back to what my life was like a year ago and how much has changed –my relationship status, my apartment, my job, my roommate -pretty much all of the big stuff. So if I made plans, there’s nothing stopping them from changing anyways.
What about your lease?
I have the BEST roommate in the world, and she fully supports me going on the world race. Before we moved in together, I warned her that I might not be able to finish out the lease; so, she was kind of prepared for my bail out. She is not opposed to someone moving in to my room and taking over the last couple months of my lease if you’re interested… I’m just saying you could be hanging with this lovely lady:
What will you be doing?
Ministry looks different from month to month, depending on the country that I’m in. Some of the things I could be doing include loving on orphans, construction work, door to door ministry, and witnessing to human trafficking victims.
Who will you be traveling with?
Everyone that was chosen to go on route 4 is on the P Squad. The P squad consists of 50 to 60 people and we will be traveling from country to country together. The squad is then broken down to teams of 5 to 7 people. Once in the country, teams will disburse throughout the country to different ministry locations.
Do you know anyone else going?
My friend Hilary applied for the same route as me when I told her about the world race! It will be nice to have a familiar face here and there throughout the trip, but we probably not be on the same team. Also, I have had the pleasure of getting to know my squad mates through our Facebook group, and let me tell you, they are the most loving and encouraging group of people I have ever met! We are already such a big family, and most of us have never met face to face.
How much does it cost?
You can actually see my funding status at a bar on the top of this page! The total cost of the trip is $16,242. After you pick your jaw up off the ground, let me give you a little bit of perspective about it. I know that I could not live off of that amount for almost a year here in the US -let alone travel between countries. I also think about the mission trip I took back in June, I had to raise $1300 for a week long trip. Also, find peace in that I do not need that entire amount before I live in January. My first deadline is coming up: $3500 by September 27th. There are a few more deadlines in which the full amount is due by July 1, 2015. This is why I cannot stress enough how much it would mean to me for you to commit a monthly donation of any amount.
What about Ebola?
Safety is a huge concern for all of my family and friends. I know that AIM (adventures in missions) takes the safety of their racers seriously and will change our route if they feel it is unsafe or unhealthy for us to live in a certain area. I do plan on taking a million precautionary shots before I leave as well. But I know there is still a pretty good possibility that I could get one of those diseases we don’t worry as much about in the US. It’s a risk that I am willing to take to live out my call for God.
How long are you gone for?
11 months!
Can you talk to people back home?
Yes! I should be able to communicate through email, Facebook, and Skype! I do not plan on having a cell phone with service, but I may be able to text over WiFi depending on my location.
What other questions do you have for me? Hit me with your best shot. 😉
