Margaret is the house mom at Horizon Farms. She has 22 kids ranging from age 19 – 54 and they all call her Mum. She prepares the meals for everyone on the farm, but more that that she loves them all with a supernatural love. Every time I have spoken with Margaret her words are dripping with pride for each of her children. I admire her passion for her children and her patience in loving them for exactly who they are.

Margaret was a Jehovah’s Witness before she became a Christian. She was diagnosed with epilepsy and was on medication for many years. One day she visited the doctor and after her exam he said that he couldn’t explain it but that she no longer had epilepsy, there was no scaring on her brain and he wanted her to slowly get off the medication. When she told her husband, a Christian man, he explained to her that his small group had been praying for her healing. At that moment she knew that it was Jesus that had healed her and she decided to stop taking the medication all together. To this day she has not had a seizure again.
Some time after that, Margaret and her family went to Mozambique for 6 years. For the first 3 years she was working with a mission organization. The founders of the organization ended up moving to the US and the organization fell through. Knowing that God would provide she began seeking a job. She found one and worked with financial loans for a small company for 3 years. One day she decided she could no longer work in that position. How could she believe and depend on God for total provision and spend 8 hours a day aiding people in debt? Not knowing what would happen Margaret stepped out in faith, quit her job, and prayed. She took another step of faith and decided to move home, back to South Africa.
Before moving she was talking to her pastor, telling him that she really needed a car but had no idea how she was going to get one. He asked her to write down everything she needed in a car. She did, very specifically, right down to the power steering. They prayed over it and she believed the Lord would provide.
Upon moving to South Africa she and a friend prayed over the car and went out looking. They visited several used car lots, none of which had the car she was looking for. Then, as they were about to leave the last lot a salesman came out and said someone had just traded in a car. She went to look and there it was, the exact car she had been praying for with every last detail she had listed.
When they moved she also needed a place for her son John to stay. He is intellectually impaired and she wanted somewhere for him to grow and be loved. While she was looking around she heard about Horizon Farms. It was just getting started and she went for it. John was the first resident at the farm. For 6 months Margaret visited John every Sunday and helped out in the kitchen. She was offered the job of house mom and she has been there ever since.

Many blessings,
Kim
