(L)Vietnam: Where we didn’t go…(R) Malaysia: Where we did!

Sorry this one is a little late… It is hard
to believe 11 months have come and gone; but here I am writing the final
monthly recap. Here is my experience in Malaysia in a snapshot:

Weather – It is still HOT in
Southeast Asia! This month began the rainy season so it typically rained every
day or two… when it stormed we appreciated the coolness it brought.

Cultural Food – There are three
dominate cultures in Malaysia who’s cuisine we enjoyed: Indian, Chinese, and
Malay. Most of it was spicy. My favorite was chicken on a stick… I still can’t
figure out how they made it taste so good! It was served with a peanut sauce.

Common Transportation – Moto’s. While we
mostly rode in cars, many people use moped’s to get around. This month was my
first ride on a moto/motorcycle! It was a little scary.

Housing/Bed – We stayed with a
local from the church. We slept in the spare bedroom on our sleeping pads on
the floor. No need for sleeping bags though… too hot.
Home.
Ministry – We worked with a local
church helping them with their small groups, visiting members of the church and
community to pray, speaking and performing song and dance (no kidding!) at
church, and just living life with the church family.

Team – We enjoyed our last
month as a team together. Although we didn’t have as much structured time
together as in previous months, we enjoyed living organically in community.

Spiritual Growth – This month was
about trust. Being so close to going home and still having no idea about the
next chapter I had to learn more about how to trust and have faith. I’m still
walking through figuring out what having hope and faith looks like without
having expectations; little by little God is teaching me these gifts.

Greatest Challenge – The Race. Knowing
that home was just around the corner was hard. Time seemed to move at the speed
of molasses. Our drastic schedule change was also hard. This month our ministry
was late at night; it my body a while to adjust to going to bed at 2am and
waking up at 10am.

Verse –Trust in the LORD
with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways
submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Favorite Moment – Kayla, Kelly, and I
made a friend at the grocery store near our house. Her name is Giti. We would
visit her every few days and talk to her at the store. Toward the end of the
month she invited us over to her house for lunch. We were able to go and she
showed us such great hospitality. We invited her to church and she came with a
friend who goes to the church regularly. We are praying that Giti comes to know
Jesus personally!

Favorite Adventure – Our final debrief
was on a small island called Pankor. We had a few days there as a squad before
we flew back to the USA. One day Lindsay and I and two of our squad mates went
out kayaking. Jenna and I were in a kayak together and we went out and got
caught in a challenging current… no worries, we made it out ok! We also saw
several jellyfish thanks Jenna’s observant eye.

Fun Fact – If you are a
missionary you are qualified as a wedding singer and recording artist! (No, I
don’t know when the record is coming out.)

And… they serve sweet tea!!! …bonus …they
serve it to go in a bag!!!
Yum!

Thank you all for joining me on this crazy
Race around the world! I have enjoyed sharing this journey with you. I will
keep you posted as I process this past year.

Many Blessings,

Kim
