working with a camp for the intellectually impaired. Many of the campers have
either autism or down syndrome. Myself along with 3 other volunteers have been
assigned to 3 of the campers: Gerard (20), Michael (18), and Carl (17). None of
these guys can talk and they need constant supervision. Although it is
challenging to keep up with 3 grown men, God is teaching me what unconditional
love looks like.

Many times in ministry we receive numerous
expressions of gratitude from those we serve. This week however the people we
are serving cannot express their thankfulness. It has made me challenge myself
and re-evaluate why I am serving and how I am loving. But God’s love for us
never changes regardless of if we thank Him for all He has done or not; His
love doesn’t change even if we don’t believe He exist at all. I have also
learned that I cannot love like this on my own; only by the Holy Spirit can I
love His children unconditionally.

This week looks pretty similar to our first
week of camp. Here is a basic outline:
7:00am – Workout
7:30am – Prayer with volunteers
8:00am – Breakfast
9:00am – Connect (short devotional with the
campers)

11:00am – Tea
12:30pm – Lunch
1:00pm – Rest (I use this time for
blogging, reading, quiet time, etc)
a low ropes course)

3:30pm – Tea
4:00pm – Swimming
5:00pm – Girl’s and Guy’s time
6:00pm – Dinner
7:00pm – Night time event (team scavenger
hunt, talent show, etc)
8:00pm – Bed

Many Blessings,
Kim
