How easily we forget.

“My son, do not forget my teaching, but
keep my commands in your heart,” Proverbs 3:1

Throughout the Bible God tells us the story
of the Israelites who continually forgot what God had done, they fell away, bad
stuff happened, they came back to God, and God, throughout the whole thing,
pursued them. Then, in the New Testament, we see several times where the people
closest to Jesus doubt, question, and then (sometimes) realize their error in
hindsight. Still, Jesus willingly gave His life for the world, including those
who doubted and mocked Him, as a part of God’s continual pursuit of His people.

I notice this tendency in my own life. God
answers my prayers, God speaks, God moves, I feel Him, and then I begin to
doubt. I question if God hears me, if God is talking to me, if God is near, and
I forget. I forget all of the things God has done and all of the promises He
has fulfilled, and I doubt that He will continue to keep His promises.

If only I would remember. To look at the
many Ebenezer’s in my life and trust God to continue His pursuit of me.

“Then Samuel took a stone and set it up
between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying “Thus far the LORD has
helped us.”” 1 Samuel 7:12

Many Blessings,
