This month our team and team Living
Liberation are working together at Beacon of Hope. Together we are working with
the 8 young men who are students here, teaching them and helping the
organizations founder, Angie, with daily life here in Machava, Mozambique.

Beacon of Hope was founded 11 years ago
when Angie obeyed the call God placed on her life. She works with young men
from age 13 to 18 providing them a home and a chance to get an education beyond
the 7th grade which is typical for many students in Mozambique. Here
they learn responsibility through chores around the compound and they have
classes here that teach them the Bible and other skills. Along with attending
the public school here they receive tutoring and extra help with their classes.

Because of God’s hand on this place, the
students here come in as boys without goals or dreams, but they leave as men
with passion and desire to achieve those dreams.

The boys in the Indian Ocean. For many of them it was their first time at the beach.

Our ministry this month is to plan and
teach the classes. Many of us are working within classes that we are passion
about and/or have past experience in. Some of the classes include: English,
Health, Science, Math, and Business. I am excited this month to be using my
college degree by developing and teaching a Business Fundamentals class. Beyond
that I am also helping Angie with the organization of her computer filing
system.

Here is a typical day in the life for me
here at Beacon of Hope:

7:00am – Wake up and have quiet time

8:00am – Breakfast (always bread with
various spreads)

8:30am – Complete my chore for the
day/morning (chores include bathroom, kitchen, or dining room cleaning)

9:00am – Do an ab workout (I am currently
out of commission for my usual workout routine because of my hurt foot)

9:30am – Shower (if the water is on, and if
no one else is in line, which is rare…)

10:00am – Work on class outlines

12:30pm – Lunch (involves rice or noodles
pretty much every day)

1:00pm – Complete my chore for the
afternoon

2:00pm – Classes begin (my class is held on
one day a week, if I’m not teaching I’m typically sitting in on classes helping
when needed)
Kayla and Molly teaching health class.

4:00pm – Soccer Game (Joshua and Angela
have set up a soccer tournament for the guys here)
Fans watching the soccer game.
4:30pm – Free time (usually spent reading
or napping in the hammock tree)
My favorite spot!

5:30pm – Dinner (also involves rice or
noodles pretty much every day)

6:00pm – Complete my chore for the evening

6:30pm – Team time and Feedback

8:00pm – Free time (typically watching Fringe with Kelly,
reading, blogging, etc.)

10:00pm – This is the time the internet
comes on… most days… if it does then I do internet stuff, if it doesn’t I go to
bed.

*Sunday is our off day and Monday we have a
church service in Angie’s home at 9:00am.
