As you know this month our ministry this month has required us to move every week. Although we are used to moving around on the race, 4 times in a month is hopefully going to be my record. Four moves means 4 bathrooms! Here they are ranked from worst to best:
Coming in a #4… the “I heard that” bathroom! This was the bathroom that was the most interesting to me. Our team had 2 bedrooms and a bathroom between them. The walls between the rooms however did not go all the way to the ceiling; they were basically ¾ walls. In the space above the wall screens had been put in place. Not only that but the walls around the toilet and shower combo were also ¾ (no screens though). Basically, any time anyone used the bathroom you could hear everything! It ended up being pretty funny though. Another fun fact about this bathroom was that it was solar powered, as was the whole farm. At least we were going green!
The #3 spot goes to… the “How many people can see me in here” bathroom! Our last week in South Africa we stayed at a camp and 11 women shared the dorm style bathroom. With 2 toilets, 2 showers, a bathtub, and sink it was pretty nice. Interestingly enough the shower curtains were see through; this was fine if you have a giant sized towel that can hang over the curtain, unfortunately my towel is miniature sized and would maybe pass for a hand towel in the states. Not only that but there are also 4 windows in the bathroom, 2 of those windows are right next to the tub and the other 2 next to one of the toilets. Curtains? Yes, but also see though. So every time I used the shower that week I had to ask myself: How many people can see me in here?
And #2 goes to… the “Biggest shower on the race” bathroom! It actually may not have been the biggest shower but the rest of the bathroom was so small that the shower felt huge. It was probably half of the bathroom itself. This was actually a really nice clean bathroom, unfortunately it was the first one of the month and I forgot to take pictures… I know you are terribly disappointed.
Drum roll please… the #1 bathroom goes to… the “SERIOUSLY? This can’t be The World Race” bathroom! As you know, for Christmas we were blessed with a week off. During that week we stayed in the home of a family that are members of the church our contacts attend. We were told the home was nice, but when we got there and saw the place we were floored! The home was amazing! We each had our own beds, a living room, a game and movie room, a patio, a huge beautiful kitchen, and a laundry room! After 5 ½ months on the race we did not take this for granted. Although I enjoyed this it did make me realize how strange it is going to be to go back to the luxuries of the US. It’s a long story, but basically I don’t really know how to use a washing machine anymore and it kind of freaked me out. Anyway, back to the bathroom, I could try to describe it but you’ll see why it wins the #1 spot from the pictures.
