As I start to reveal my clandestine plans for the WR, the folks on the receiving end of this news are falling pretty squarely into 1 of 2 camps, with few in-between. The conversation starts with, "I have something exciting I want to share with you." Or if this is a virtual conversation of sorts, I might append that with a link to my WR page. At this point, the split begins…

Camp A: Crazy Kiki

"Are you nuts?!"

Then comes the declaration, "You can't do this!" Followed by a litany of reasons with my "general fragile condition" being among the top of the list. At some point in the conversation, the guardian steps aside and the responsible career-minded person jumps in. "Why would you do something like this," they ask, " at this point in your career?" The conversation goes on in the "Don't be insane" direction for some time until they finally sigh and either virtually, or in flesh give me a SMH…

Camp B: Amazing Kiki

"Wow! That's so Amazing!" Is the theme of the conversation with these folks. "This is going to be SO GOOD for you." These folks are full of encouragement and push me on and on and they rarely, if ever, give a second thought to my "responsibilities" or challenges here on earth.

The Middle

As I mentioned before, there are few folks who fall in-between. At least so far, this has been the case. These are the people who think this is the the craziest, most awesome kiki-idea to date. These are the "I knew you'd do this – you're always Everywhere in the World!" But they also recognize my challenges.. "I hope you know there's no room service in hostels… have you ever stayed in a hostel??"

I can't tell you which camp is the right or wrong camp to fall into. Obviously, I get lots of warm fuzzies and encouragement from my positive audience. However, there's some truth and validity to the questions or objections raised by the detractors.

Granted I haven't shared with a large audience yet, it will be interesting to see the breakdown with a broader data set. Although I feel there’s validity of the data based on the intimacy of my coterie to whom I've revealed, I realize they could be just as nutty as I am, thus the opinion of my larger circle matters.

I’ll respond to each camp in later posts. For now, why don’t you weigh in on the debate! I’m looking forward to all responses 🙂
