The month of March is being spent in Romania. Our debrief was held in the beautiful Brasov. Last month, I was extremely fatigued from the daily traveling and long days of ministry. If you haven’t read about India, please follow this link. This month is totally different. My team and two others are being hosted by Outreach Romania at The Seventh Springs in a very small town. This ministry sits on fourteen acres of land, hosts children summer camps, and religious conferences and retreats year round. We live in a dorm style building with internet, hot showers, warm rooms, and soft beds. Our assignment is to prepare the grounds for upcoming events. Please check out the slideshow at the bottom of the page.
We chopped firewood to keep the furnace going, planted flowers and an orchard (peach, plum, cherry, and apple trees), helped with loads and loads of bed linens, cleaned the building, and anything else our host asked of us. The rain, snow, and extremely cold temperatures, prevented us from working outdoors on several days. In turn, we’ve had lots of time to spend in worship and getting to know each other better. Unlike India, there is very little people contact.
We attend and participate (speak, sing, and read the Bible) in a small church that has less than ten regular members. On a daily basis it is our host and the cook. (The cook is a grumpy, older lady who locks us out the kitchen and prepares slack meals.) We are served lots of potatoes, rice, and pasta with all the bread and butter you desire. There are occasional appearances by meat, eggs, carrots, corn, and peas. By the end of the week, we may have eaten one full serving of vegetables. Malnutrition is my biggest challenge this month. With all this rest, relaxation, and comfort, I am a little nervous about how next month in the Ukraine will be. Their plan is to separate the men from the women to have “WOMANistry” and “MANistry” month. It should be interesting so stay tuned! I write this with full confidence that God will provide for me to complete the last four months of this missionary trip.
