I have written a ton of stories in my lifetime, but typically about other people. I enjoy writing…
But not, About Me. Let's see if I can do it.
I was born on April 30, 1988 in Grand Rapids, MI. This makes me a ripe young age of 24, although you may guess older based on my constantly receding hairline (sigh). I've grown up and continue to live in the small town of Byron Center, about 15-minutes south of Grand Rapids. I attended Byron Center schools all my life and went to a community college downtown for Communications. I have two great parents who support me in everything that I set out to do (good or bad), Jeff and Tammy, an older brother Derek and younger sister Lindsey. I love my family. Last but not least I have a pet dog, Bailey, or who I call Goose, who I love dearly and will likely be who I miss most of all during the trip. I can't exactly talk with her on the phone. Or is there an app for that?
God has blessed me with some great opportunities in the past several years throughout and following school. I have hosted a live NASCAR K&N Pro Series radio broadcast, as well as countless other racing, football and other athletic and non-athletic events on radio, public address and staged events. I've worked as the general manager of a near 10,000-seat racing facility, a major sports and entertainment venue, and the events and communications coordination for a huge property management company in the southwest region of the U.S.
College football is by far and away my favorite sport to watch or attend in person, and I can almost always be found in some type of Green or White garment featuring the Spartans of Michigan State. My bro graduated from MSU, and I have come to love the Spartans through thick and thin. Don't be surprised if you see the Spartan 'S' in pictures and videos of me on the field around the world! GO GREEN!
I have lived a very blessed life, full of amazing experiences and opportunities since I was young. I have lived in Charlotte, NC and Orlando, FL, and most recently in Cadillac, MI (Northern lower MI). While I enjoyed a tremendous job in Florida, and during my time in Charlotte and back in Michigan, I always had an empty feeling inside. I knew that there was something missing in my life and I just felt incomplete, often searching and trying to fill that void.
One of the worst days of my life was June 22, 2012. Although I will spare the details, it changed me and will ultimately have an eternal affect on me. Through prayer and asking God why, he showed me where my void was and pointed me in a new direction. Missions. Something I had always wanted to do but pushed to the back burner, missions continued to be put in front of me. I took part in a missions trip to New York City to provide relief to victims of Hurricane Sandy through AIM. This again was a life altering experience, where God worked in some incredible ways through, with and around me and my fellow missionaries. (Read more). I am now 100% at peace with the incident this past summer, and thank The Lord for providing me with strength and guidance through it all, and revealing His plan for me when I asked him.
Kentwood Community Church has been my family church home for my entire 24-year life. I continue to grow in my faith more than ever before, and cannot thank the people around me that have offered so much love, prayers and support. I would be nowhere without them and they are all incredible to me. Their love and support will ultimately touch countless lives in 11 different countries around the GLOBE through both their empowerment of me, and God's unmatched love and strength that he has given to me. How awesome is that.
I am thrilled for the opportunity to be blessed to go on the World Race, and cannot wait for launch on July 1, 2013.
