So after quite a long day of traveling yesterday I arrived at  Trail West a Young Life family camp in Buena Vista, Colorado.  I will be serving here as a cook the next month on summer staff.  This is my third year doing summer staff and each experience has been in a different place with a different job.  Each one of them pulling me out of my comfort zone.  In 2008 I was a sailing instructor at Malibu Club in British Columbia.  I had never been sailing and here i was supposed to teach a bunch of high school kids how.  The funny part is while there I never even sailed so at the end of the month my superlative was no experience necessary.  Kinda funny.  Last year in 2009 I was at Frontier Ranch, also in Buena Vista, Colorado.  However, Frontier is a regular high school camp.  I worked on the ropes team and my Mom literally laughed at me when I told her what assignment I had been given for the month because I was terrified of heights.  I loved every minute of it, and continued to work ropes at a more local camp throughout the year.  Now I’m a cook.  And in case you don’t know me… I can’t cook.  God has opened my eyes, and taught me new things each summer and I am excited to journey through the process again and see what changes have been made in my heart when i leave at the end of July.  I also think this was great because it perfectly backed up to training for the World Race!  I fly straight there from Colorado so having a month serving families and growing in a community is a great place for me to be while preparing my heart for family camp.   And let’s be real I love these Colorado Rocky Mountains!!  At some point in my life I think I’ll call them home.  I will do my best to continue blogging while I’m working here but schedule’s are pretty crazy so be patient with me!  If you aren’t familiar with Young Life I really encourage you to check out their website but here’s a brief description:

“Young Life doesn’t start with a program.  It starts with adults who are concerned enough about kids to go to them, on their turf and in their culture, building bridges of authentic friendship.  These relationships don’t happen overnight – they take time, patience, trust and consistency.  So Young life leader log many hours with kids – where they are, as they are.  We listen to their stories and learn what’s important to them because we genuinely care about their joys, triumphs, heartaches, and setbacks.  We believe in the power of presence.  Kids’ lives are dramatically impacted when caring adults come alongside them, sharing God’s love with them.  Because their Young Life leader believes in them, they begin to see that their lives have great worth, meaning and purpose.  This is the first step of a lifelong journey; the choices they make today, based upon God’s love for them, will impact future decisions… careers chosen, marriages formed and families raised.  All ripples from the time when a Young Life leader took time to reach out and enter their world.”
Thanks, for your continued support and prayers I appreciate you all so much!
