Cocka-doodle-doo!
Cocka-doodle-doo!

The screeching roosters filled the cool morning air. It was day one in the Dominican Republic and I woke up early to watch the sunrise from the rooftop, underneath the mango tree.

My team is blessed to be surrounded by the green luxurious Dominican mountains this month. I find His glory the most in His creation. It is like He knew I needed to be captivated by His artwork entering into this year-long journey.

As I was sitting, gazing into the pink and orange sky, the rooster sounds were overpowering.

Cocka-doodle-doo!
Cocka-doodle-doo!

Soaking in the beauty around me, my mind immediately flashed back to two years ago.

October 2013, Jesus shook me with the sound of a rooster. I sat by the stream in Cleveland, TN, in complete serenity, when the sudden sound of a rooster shocked me.

In that moment, God loudly whispered, “Kerri, wake up!!”

There were things I needed to let go of that I was so carefully holding on to. Secret sins were consuming my life. But I was not ready to hand them over to God.

About six months later, March 2014, I was caught in my sin, and I was ready to WAKE UP. I no longer wanted to be satisfied by the ways of the world.

I was tired; the repetitive empty fulfillment was draining. Ever since that moment in March, I began listening to the “cocka-doodle-doo”. It was time I decided to follow His calling.

Here I am, January 2016, and I heard the rooster. Again. God still wants to wake me up, but in new ways. He has more for me. He wants me to be alive. He wants to love me. He calls me worthy.

I am forever thankful for His rooster call.

During this first month of the World Race, my prayer is that He would continually wake my heart.

As we plan/organize children’s camp, work with the women’s ministry, and go into the homes of the local villages here in Lajas, I am awake and ready for what God has to offer.

You too, can hear the rooster sound if you let Him.

Jesus is able to wake you from your routine; He is eager to show you what He has to offer.
