hello!
i’m alive.
long time, no talk.
i’ve been in a more rural village in india, so i haven’t had wifi in a bit. we are have been staying in a lower level college/elementary school on the floor of the classrooms. ministry has looked like a lot of different things since being in india.
we have done lots of kids ministry, put on vbs’, and helped build a church and cook meals for the squad.
some of the more interesting ministries we have done are:
we have gone mud fishing, were in a dance competition for the church christmas party, and were a choir for their christmas service.
i guess the biggest things that have happened since being off the grid are the holidays. i hoped you all enjoyed yours!!
this is what the holidays looked like for me:
speaking of that dance competition, the week before christmas we were told one day for ministry we were to split into groups and choreograph a dance routine to compete at the village christmas party. (important: the party was called kristmas flavor 2019)
this was probably one of my favorite days in india. the party was so fun and we got to watch a lot of the locals sing and dance and dress up as santa. and my group got 5th place in the competition, but personally i’m think we deserved first.
christmas eve- was our sabbath, so me and some friends walked up what they call prayer mountain and laid in our hammocks, spent time with Jesus, and laughed together.
that night we had a bonfire, sang christmas songs, drank chai, and did secret santa.
christmas day- i woke up to sweet notes and small gifts from leaders and squad mates. i took a nice icy bucket shower and then went to a warm breakfast.
the whole squad participated in kids church. we put on a skit of the nativity story. then that afternoon, the whole village came together for a christmas feast. they have lines and lines and lines for different meats. pork spicy, beef spicy, fish, pork not spicy, etc. it’s a fun time. then me and my team watched movies and had cake for everyone’s birthdays in December.
new year’s eve- we went to a church that morning and taught the kids songs and bible verses. then we came back to that church in the evening for a communion service. it was very cool to experience this with the church here. the way they take communion is a lot more ceremonial than at home.
then, honestly we are usually in bed around 8pm here because there’s not much to do once it gets dark and we are so exhausted anyways. so that didn’t change for me on new year’s eve. i just remember waking up around midnight to fireworks, being completely out of it and just passing out again. lol.
new year’s day- my team had kitchen duty, so we got to help fry chicken and peel potatoes and then eat fresh coconut with our friend who runs the kitchen. he’s definitely one of the funniest people i’ve met here. anytime we get to spend with him is pure joy and lots of belly laughs and confused faces.
so that was the holidays for me. my most abnormal christmas and new years yet, but times i will remember forever. i did miss my family and home a lot that week though. if you see my family, give them a hug for me please.
you know what i also missed? all the food and goodies at christmas. send me pics of you eating some of your favorite holiday foods…or even just McDonald’s. plus i love hearing from people!
also, i am now fully funded!!!!!!!! thank you all so much for supporting me, financially and through prayer. and by following my journey and reading my blogs. it means more than you know.
excited to share more about india
love kenni
