I have been asking God to surprise me every day for the last couple weeks expecting Him to do things I couldn’t make happen myself. This was the day He did it and of course…it really was a surprise.
The day started by teaching for the first two hours of the day, just like the fist part of the week. Then, after lunch, we were told Thursday afternoons were chapel services for the students and, yup you guessed it, we were the speakers.

So after trying to figure out what to speak about we just decided to ask the Holy Spirit for His help and go for it. Almost instantly the word power came to my mind. The first twenty minutes were spent worshiping Zambia style. There were no instruments, no lights, and no microphones, but that did not matter. The place was electric with students dancing and singing before the All Powerful One.
I had never spoken on this topic before, but as I began speaking, things just started flowing. The main point: God can change any situation with just one word. So I asked the kids to write down the biggest prayer they could think of. I then explained how God is able to do things way beyond what our minds can even begin to comprehend (Ephesians 3:20). Written down were prayers for knowledge, wisdom, and families to become whole. Then, my teammate, Kim spoke on Psalm 139. She brought an understanding that God is not just powerful, but also a caring and loving Father that knows us intimately.
After we finished, we opened up the floor for the students to come to the front for prayer. There were about 20 who stayed to get a touch from God. I prayed for families, wisdom, and the ability to read/write. There was also a young lady who decided to follow Jesus and surrender her life to Him.
Right before leaving, a 9th grader named George, who I had been teaching the whole week, approached me with a question.
“What can I do to have a successful life?”
This isn’t an uncommon question and most of the time the answer given is education. While this is not a bad solution, I explained how my life changed only after truly surrendering my life to God and making His plan my plan. I do not know for sure if he accepted my advice but just the fact he asked me meant he at least respected my opinion.

These are the moments I live for. This is why I decided to go on the World Race. This is what I was created for.
Leaving that room I had to hold back tears. It is such an honor to be able to be used by an all-knowing, all-loving and all-powerful God. I experienced His love that day by being the vessel that His love flowed from. I cannot wait to experience the rest of God’s surprises throughout my life.
