If you read Pt.1 you know that in April I will be moving to Spain to attend G42 Leadership Academy.

My goal for this blog is to answer some questions and give you a bit more of why I’ve chosen this next step!

Let’s get started.

What is G42?

“The G42 Leadership Academy is a six month program created for discipling, inspiring and equipping young men and women to locate their passion – whether in business, the non-profit realm, church planting or the arts – and to develop a strategy to use that passion to bring Kingdom to the earth.” *

How will this happen?

Within the six months we will dive into important topics through “practical classroom teachings such as business, art and leadership and through biblical/spiritual lessons (Church, Grace, community) etc.” We will also be encouraged to branch out into the local community to partner with existing ministries or even start our own. Another important element of G42 is their emphasis on authentic community. I will be living with a small group of interns putting into action the things that I am learning in class.

What reason most influenced my decision to apply to G42?

I heard about G42 early in my race and instantly thought it would be something awesome to do but honestly the fact that it was more fundraising caused me to dismiss it. Yet, it was something that constantly came up whether it was someone asking, “have you thought about G42?” or me having dreams about it. The reason the fundraising steered me away is because I had the mindset that coming home as a 26 year old I needed to buckle down get a “big girl job” and fully support myself. Like most people, fully supporting myself is huge and more fundraising wasn’t in my plan of doing that.

My first week back in America, G42 came up in a random conversation and I realized that me not doing it and going with my other plan would be settling. It would be me taking all that God had done and taught me this past year and putting it in a box on a shelf. I think back to signing up for the race and the fear that tried to stop me. The race was amazing and I couldn’t imagine not having gone through it. So with G42 I feel it’s the next step in going where God is calling me and I know if I don’t do it I will regret it.

Also, going into my last month on the race my team went to Kotor, Montenegro for a couple of days. I was sitting by the water feet in listening to “Alive” by Kim Walker-Smith and it was as if a layer of scales had fallen off my eyes. I literally saw the world around me with new vision. I heard, “there is life teeming all around you.” and my response was, “I WANT TO BE APART OF IT!!” Going into my last month on the race, my question was, “what does it mean to be fully alive?” It’s something I’m still trying to understand but when I read the G42 website I felt our heart beats were the same. People living fully alive for Christ. Not settling. Taking risks. Living lives completely led by the Spirit. That’s what I want and I want to be around individuals that share the same sentiments.

What would I like to see happen during my time at G42?

I’ve learned so much about God, myself and my passions this past year but I know I have more training that I desire and need.

Four major themes of my race were: Solidifying my relationship with Christ, getting my voice back, God shaping me into a leader and loving beyond my capacity.

I feel G42 is a place where these lessons and desires that have just started stirring within me can be fostered and developed. I want to learn more about Christ, I want to learn how to use my voice, I want to learn what leadership really looks like and I want to be challenged in loving people.

My passion is wanting to help people tell their stories through film. I want to help people find the beauty and freedom in their own stories. I believe God is doing amazing things in the film industry and in wanting to pursue film, I believe the things I will learn at G42 are beneficial, for me it’s about more than talent it’s about having a character that will sustain in you all circumstances.

How much will I need to raise and where is the money going?

In order to go I will need to raise $6,800 (+personal funds). I will need to have raised $3,800 by the first day of class, April 6 and the remainder shortly after. These funds will go towards my tuition, food and lodging.
