So, can I tell y’all something? My heart literally hurts when I think of the lies that we believe. The lies of this world, the lies of the devil, the lies that so easily tangle us up. I just want us to live in this true and freeing love and grace of God. I have realized some truths that the Lord has been placing on my heart after believing in some lies. I want to set them straight…and what better day than today to set them right?

*Father, can you take this? Can you take this blog post and turn it from words on a screen to truth in our souls? Can you make it real to us? Can you make us KNOW without a doubt who you say we are? You’ve created us in such a beautiful way that demands a relationship with you. It’s beauty at its greatest. You are so good. Take this, Lord, and be glorified by your people believing in you and giving you glory. In your Son’s name I pray, Amen*

{Lie: Your body defines who you are.}

{Truth: Jesus’ broken body defines who you are.}

Let’s be honest. This world tears apart women and men and makes us think that our bodies tell us our worth. If you are overweight, you aren’t good enough. If you are too skinny, you aren’t worth it. If you have terrible skin, you should be ashamed. If you don’t like the way your nose looks—change it. If you aren’t rocking a 6 pack, you aren’t good looking enough. If you don’t have nice clothes to cover up that body—you are just simply not worth it.

Umm, that’s straight up CRAP. YOU ARE NOT YOUR BODY. You are the Lord’s. You have already been bought at a priceless cost. You are pursued. You are loved. You are His. You are treasured. You are covered. You are felt. You are remembered. You are perfect and righteous. You are on the mind of the King of Kings. You are thought of. You were made intentionally. You are heard. You are listened to. You are absolutely without a shadow of a doubt WORTH IT.

There was blood shed out for you. A body broken and beaten for you. While we all still sinned, our God poured out for us. No matter what the physical eye can see, the spiritual sight of the King is ON YOU.

DO NOT BELIEVE THE LIE THAT YOU ARE NOT WORTH IT

BECAUSE YOU ARE LITERALLY WORTH DYING FOR.

{Lie: A woman/man can satisfy me and make me happy.}

{Truth: God is your true and lasting satisfaction.}

Unfortunately our unhappiness manifests itself in the idea that we need someone or something else. That THEY or IT will make us happy and that we will finally fill our void. So you know what we do? We crave any and everything. We fill up our voids with a relationship, sex, flirting, and distractions. We go and date someone and become OH SO HAPPY when we are together, our life is just COMPLETE, but then when the relationship ends—our happiness is broken and shattered. Our satisfaction is back to square one and we are out chasing the next temporary fix.

Y’all the truth is, we were created with a longing that can only be filled in our relationship with God. That void that you are filling up with temporary fixes is meant to be filled up with the joy that our King gives us. So when those relationships do end, when pain comes, our joy is still there because we serve an almighty and loving Savior. It’s funny, because God knew we would be prone to wonder—but we can only be prone to wonder if we have a foundation that we are leaving and running from. That foundation is our King. He knew that without that longing we would just wonder and run around, but He put it there in such an undeniable way that we would come back to Him.

HE IS THE ONLY SATISFACTION OUR SOUL CAN MEET.

{Lie: Marriage is for happiness.}

{Truth: Marriage is for holiness.}

Raise your hand if you have ever thought that when you get married you will finally be happy! Raise your hand if in your relationship you have thought that once you get married—everything will get better. We believe that we get married to be happy, for the butterflies, to skip around the house tickling each other.

Truth is, we get married to become more holy. Marriage the way God intended is to be two people, together as one, serving His name in a stronger way than they could separately. It’s easy to believe marriage is about us—but it’s all about God.  Marriage isn’t about answering my wants, it’s about answering God’s call to radiate His light. The happiness that does come within in a marriage is the product of living a holy life within that marriage. God cares about the small details, but He also doesn’t want us to miss His divine reasoning.

There will be days that my marriage won’t be happy—

but I pray to God it can still remain holy.

{Lie: Sex is just a fun and recreational act decided by humans.}

{Truth: Sex is a binding connection between two people created by God.}

We’ve got a whole night dedicated to seeing women walk up and down a runway pretending to be selling bathing suits/lingerie while really selling sex. It sends the concept that if you see it, you can have it. Nearly every show on television has characters that have premarital sex and not only do they do that, somehow they get us to think it’s sweet. We even, at times, root for the couple to have that. Man, we have fallen trap to this lie. On top of the television stuff—we’ve believed that if you “love” someone than you can have sex with them.  If you care a lot about someone, you can have sex with them. If you want to, you can. There is a war going on with women and children being SOLD into sex trafficking. YOU CAN LITERALLY BUY SEX. It’s insane and ridiculous and absolutely heartbreaking. It’s a lie.

Here’s the thing, our life isn’t ours. So, that whole Bible thing filled with the word of God isn’t just for fluff and fame. It’s for us. When He created sex—He stated that it made them ONE FLESH; if we take it whenever we want, and who we want we keep breaking over and over the ONE FLESH. We keep breaking ourselves OVER AND OVER again—leaving us hurting, broken and  absent.

Stay with me here, if we lived a life that was for our own glory—we could have sex whenever we wanted, before or after marriage, with whomever we wanted, spouse or not.

But, we don’t live a life for our own glory—we live a life for the GLORY OF GOD.

{Lie: Once you are broken, you are useless.}

{Truth: We serve a God who can make all things new.}

You’ve already sold your body. You have chosen to have sex with anyone and everyone. You have chosen to be sexually active and emotionally void for as long as you can remember. You chose to give in to temptation. You chose to believe these lies and not only that—but at times you proclaimed them as truth. You aren’t a virgin anymore. You are don’t see the importance in truly loving someone. You have chosen to live a life that is led by the lies of the world. You are broken and God can’t use you. You don’t feel whole anymore and you are just drained. God can’t use something like you to bring Him glory.

I’ve got good news, we don’t serve a God who is bound by OUR thoughts and beliefs.

We serve a God who is so much more than we could ever imagine or think up. He goes beyond our thoughts. We serve a God who can make all things new. In Romans 12 it talks about transformation. That word isn’t talking about just taking the snake skin off and you still being a snake.

It’s talking about making the caterpillar into a butterfly.

HE WANTS TO TRANSFORM YOU. HE WANTS TO MAKE YOU NEW.

You, my sweet friends, can be made new in the name of Jesus. You are useful in the Kingdom of God. Absolutely loved and craved in the kingdom of God. You are new.

Y’all, these lies just break my heart because I know what it feels like to believe them. I know what it feels like to take those lies and make them my truth, and it’s so draining. It hurts so badly and I lived in a life in bondage because I was living with shackles so tight around my heart and soul that I couldn’t see the truth. You guys, if you believe in Jesus—He is the way, the TRUTH and the life.

If we choose to press His name on our lips,

we have to press His name in our hearts and souls and BELIEVE IN HIM.

Part of believing in Him, is trusting in Him with these sorts of things. It’s hard, I know. God doesn’t want you to strip every desire for an intimate relationship with someone; he wants you to desire that. We just have to realize there are unhealthy lies we believe. Everything has it’s time and the Lord of the universe cares about you greatly—He will put it in the order that best glorifies Him and is better for us.

We have to stop believing in the lies of this world,

 BECAUSE WE SERVE A GOD WHO IS ALREADY VICTORIOUS OVER THIS WORLD.

*Lord, thank you. Thank you for your truths. Thank you for taking broken, running, and damaged lives and making them new. Thank you for taking our lives, the very ones who run from you, and nailing it to a cross with your son to make us whole in your name. You are enough, Lord. Thank you for sharing a passion with us that can’t be answered with anything but your name. You are beyond good to us. Help us to believe the truths of your word and not the lies of this world. You have overcome the world, Lord. You are victorious. We love you Father. In your Son’s name, Amen.*
