Training camp: a time of discovery, freedom, and love.
74 squadmates. Tents. New relationships. Awesome worship.
Discovery. I grew up as a Christian. At school, home and church I learned what it meant to love God and others. That was all grand until I came to training camp. I realized that the “Christian” life I had been living was missing something HUGE! I discovered the Holy Spirit. Of course, at school and church I had read verses and books that talked about the Holy Spirit, but until I got to Georgia I had never seen the life that the Holy Spirit gives to us. More to come on this at a layer date.
Freedom. The first few days of training camp were centered around receiving the freedom that Christ offers us as His children. Laying down our pasts at His feet. Woah. Talk about messy. I didn’t realize until I got to camp how much I needed this time to be refreshed by God. To see Him in a whole new way. I thank the AIM staff and our squad leaders for showing me what this really means and helping me every step of the way.
Love. We had a very intense night of worship on Sunday while at camp. 3 and 1/2 hours to be exact. Jonathan David helser, who is absolutely amazing, led our worship. During this incredible time Jonathan shared with us a story about his daughter. She went on her first official shopping trip with her mother. When she came home she was so excited about her new dress. She put it on and stood there in front of her daddy waiting for his approval. And of course he told her she looked more beautiful that day than she had ever looked before. This is the first time I realized that God is my Daddy. I look to Him all the time for His approval. And everytime I seek his approval He shows me how much He loves me. Just like my earthly parents, but soo much more!
