So, after teaching English for a few weeks now, I’ve started to get bored with our typical conversations about what we did in the morning and what we ate for lunch. So tonight during class, I taught my students some idioms. I taught them “five o’clock shadow”, “I wear my heart on my sleeve” and “it’s raining cats and dogs” but the one they were most entertained by was “cut the cheese”. It took me awhile to explain to them what it meant. First, I told them it meant farting, but they didn’t know that word either so I asked them to look it up in their dictionary and explain it in Camai to the students who didn’t have a dictionary. Once everyone started to understand there were bursts of laughter coming from each student. One girl, Debbie, said “it’s the air when you poo-poo” and I just cracked up. It was the best night of teaching I’ve had so far.
