The last week before we were to head to the mountain village of Gorkha to visit Gresom’s family and the believers that lived there, we volunteered at the Om Mata Preschool for 4 days. At the preschool, there were kids ranging from ages 3 to 7. Our job was simple, each day we would split into our designated group of 4 or 5, and go to a grade level to teach them english and help the teachers with activities and completing assignments. Sometimes we would sing songs with them in English, and other times just play with them to try and spend their enormous energy (except for this one boy, I have a video of him just falling asleep at his desk it’s the cutest thing).
The school was Hindi, and we couldn’t really minister to preschoolers. However, we spent our free time talking with the teachers who worked there. It didn’t feel like real ministry at first, but it was really cool to see how God opened up opportunities with the teachers in our conversations to bring Him to their attention. One lovely young woman who was taking a gap year to volunteer and work at the preschool who further pursuing her education asked us about our relationships, and talked about her own arranged marriage. Through the conversation, we were able to talk about how in America we don’t have arranged marriages, and she asked about marriage in our own religions. God really opened up a curiosity in her for Him, and even though she wasn’t saved when I was there, I know that God put His hand on her, and has a plan to bring her back to Him with later missionaries.
The last day we all spent dancing and laughing and thanking the people we had worked with, saying our own littel goodbye to the cute kids we’d taught for a week. Leaving the school, I’m super excited to hear about what God’s going to be doing there even after we’re gone.
