Favorite moment this week
A few days ago while recovering from being sick, I was sitting on my mattress playing my guitar when I noticed a boy watching me. Many kids hang around our home, but for some reason this kid caught my attention. He was staring at me with such curiosity. I looked at him and said hello. Timidly, he pointed and asked “what is that?” “A guitar”, I said. I began to play for him another song and see his eyes move. My teammate was watching a movie on her computer with her head phones in and this boy looked at me again and asked “is that a TV?” I couldn't take it anymore, realizing that this little guy has probably never even seen a movie before, I grab my computer and invite him to come sit and watch a movie with me. I found out that his name is Vincent and he is a street kid, only 12 years old. While Vincent and I are watching Jungle Book one of the Pastors stops by and tells me to be careful because many of the street kids are thieves. I was sure to be aware but by looking at Vincent's eyes I knew that wouldn't be a problem. During the entire movie Vincent never looked away from the screen. His eyes were fascinated. Before I knew it the movie was over and I was sad to say goodbye to my new friend. Vincent gets up, pushes in the chair, says thank you and goodbye. I watched him walk down the dirt road and can't help but cry. Vincent took some of my heart with him that day. I didn't feel well and thought my day would only consist of me laying around. Turns out God had something different planned.
This moment taught me that while at times when our bodies are sick our hearts aren't. Ministry usually includes us being around many people and children. That day it was just the one that God had for me to love. I hope this encourages you to take time for the “one” today.
