It’s 1:42am and I can’t sleep. Why would I? How could I?
I am currently on hour 4 of a 7 hour bus trip, laying across two seats on a double decker bus. As I think about the past 9 hours, and how I got to be on this bus, I grin and just praise my Heavenly Father. His goodness and faithfulness has been with us in every step we have taken (specifically on Serbian soil).
My team leader, Nettie, was tasked with finding a way for our team of 6 to get from Belgrade, Serbia to Pristina, Kosovo via bus. So when we landed in Belgrade, there were a lot of unknowns for our team. Like: how do we get from point A to point B? Where is a bus station? How do we manage to communicate with our host or leaders without WiFi or SIM cards in our phone? What language is that sign in? All these unknowns stared us in the face. Definitely wish you could see mine because I’m grinning ear to ear; the unknowns are starting to become my favorite.
So with our knowledge bank full, and with a deer in the headlights look, we step out of the airport. Once managing to find the shuttle we pray. Megan specifically prayed that we would come in contact with honest people whole would help us along the way. Man, did God answer that 10 fold. On the shuttle we met a older woman who was so so sweet. She did not speak English, but was able to help us while we were buying bus tickets. When we were buying dinner we accidentally over-payed by about $30 USD, and the shop owner told us and gave us the money back. After eating at the cafe, one of the workers asked us (without any prompting) if she could fill our water bottles for us…for free! This coming after a 8 hour international flight that did not provide water, and a whole day of being in and out of airports (we were very dehydrated). We somehow made a call to our squad leader on a phone with a SIM card that wasn’t supposed to work. We managed to get one of the nicer buses with a fine gentleman that speaks no English, but has kept an eye on us and helped us along our ride.
I’m beginning to understand John 21:35 on a different level. “Jesus did so many other things. If they were all written down, I suppose the whole world could not contain the books that would be written.” NLT
I mean, wow. That is the last verse of John, and I don’t think there was a better way to end that gospel. Jesus is alive, and he continues to work in lives every day.
What if we started praying super specific prayers? What if we put God on the line and stopped praying prayers and then trying to make it happen on our own?
What if his goodness is better than you think it is?
