Life on the race is changing everyday. We don’t always know what to expect and God has been dealing with me about this. Being from the United States I love to have a schedule of what I am doing that day, have a general idea of what is going on, and have all of this information ahead of time. These commodities are awesome, but down here we do not have these things and for the longest time I have been hampered in this. It is hard for me to walk into a situation with no structure and come out feeling like something has been accomplished. My idea of accomplishment is having some kind of set goal (kind of like in job position) and working toward that to any level of success. In the United States I had projects at work and was able to work at them.

Down here everything is totally different and I have been getting used to it. Two of the three places we have been so far have had no structure. We then had to pray and see where God was leading us. We have seen some great things come from this, but having structures is always something that I have had. I have had to adapt to a new way of doing things.

Jesus says in Matthew 6:31-34, “Do not worry saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the [people of this world] run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Jesus tells us to take one day at a time, but in America we love to worry about the future. We like to have a plan and we like to always be running around trying to make the most of our time, because as we all know time is money. Well it’s not.

Time belongs to God and so does money. Why do we serve money instead of serving the God who owns all of it anyway? Now that I don’t have a salary, and my performance doesn’t determine my income, God has been showing me the importance of this passage in Matthew. I don’t have to have everything planned out and figured out. I can simply commit each day to Him in the morning and know that He will be with me all day to do His will.

I challenge you to evaluate you own life and determine if the stress of your day is getting to you. Is it? If you have a burden of expectations that comes from work, family, and friends is your focus really where it needs to be. Jesus says that His burden is light and He won’t bog you down with a load you can’t carry. He will well up within you with strength. Consider Psalm 46:10 “Be still and know that I am God.” It is hard to take time from our schedules to be quiet and listen to God. It is easier to fill it with stuff to do, but at the same time we will lose that joy that comes from ttime with God. Take time away from your busy schedule. Reconnect with Jesus!
