I have held an incorrect view of church for a long time. For the longest time I have thought that it was a building that I go to on Sunday. I have been growing a lot in that it is far from that. Church is when belivers in Jesus Christ get together to encourage, edify, and sharpen each other. It is far more than meeting on Sunday, although that is a great time to praise and worship God. But this is what I am finding church to be…
Christian brothers and sisters being there for eachother when they are sick or not doing well.
brothers getting together to be accountable and study the word of God.
small groups that help people overcome addictions and worldly vices.
spending time talking to homeless people begging on the side of the road.
lending a friend some money not expecting to get any of it back.
being willing to give your most prized possesions away if needed to provide for someone else.
Kingdom living is so much more than meeting people on Sunday. It is really getting into people’s lives and caring for them.
My scripture reading for today included 1 Corinthians 1:7. “Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed.” This was written to the Corinthian church and in context refers to their body as a whole. Everyone in the body has a different and important job, and when everyone is working in their gifting this body can really change the world. This body also is fully qaulified and does not need anything more. Christ is the head and empowers it with everything in needs to do the job of reaching the lost world.
As I was thinking about this early this morning I am so grateful for everyone on my team. We are all different and it is so great. I know we are ready for whatever comes our way and I am not really scared. God has empowered us. We just have to submit to Him and walk in His power and more importantly His love.
